Dominican artists reflect on shared culture and experiences in Saint Lucia

Dominican performers are praising their recent time spent in Saint Lucia, highlighting the cultural similarities and warm reception they received while participating in the island’s Carnival festivities.

Reo, who recently visited for his ‘La Vie Doux’ tour during the Carnival season in July, said his week in Saint Lucia was filled with energy and connection.

“I was at FeteLand..,Legends. Big up all the Lucians… I really love Saint Lucia,” he said, adding that he was especially struck by how many locals knew and responded to his popular track.

“I actually have a song with my brother Shemmy J (Saint Lucian artist) but I’m really looking forward to work with more.”

Benji from Triple K Band International echoed similar sentiments, remarking on the Carnival atmosphere. “It was a wonderful experience to see the way St. Lucians revel. Not much different from Dominica,” he said, explaining that while there are slight differences in pre-Carnival events, the overall spirit and revelry felt very familiar.

For Shelly of Signal Band, Saint Lucia’s welcome felt like home.

“Sometimes, you might feel you’re in Dominica,” he explained, pointing to the shared culture, accent, food, and music between the two islands.

Shelly described their first-ever Saint Lucian performance at Soca Garden as a success, saying, “It was a great reception in Saint Lucia for Shelly and the Signal Band for the first time.”

The experiences shared by these artists highlight the close ties between the two islands, not only through music but through a cultural bond.
