Edward takes weight throw Conference title

A strong debut season continued for Joy Edward at the University of Charleston, as the Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School alumna scored significant points for the Golden Eagles, en route to winning the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet was held February 21-22, at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex in Huntington, West Virginia.

Edward, a senior transfer, won the 9.0kg women’s weight throw with a distance of 17.89m to earn First Team All-Conference honours. She later added a second-place finish in the shot put, throwing 14.78m and earning Second Team All-Conference honours. The Charleston women claimed the conference crown with 140 points, topping Point Park (114).

Over at the NJCAA Region 6/Jayhawk Conference Indoor Championships, Naya Jules scored a personal best in the women’s pentathlon with a score of 2,767 for Garden State City Community College. She improved her marks in the 800m, shot put and high jump. She placed seventh in the conference and region. She also placed third in the conference and sixth in the region with a 2.90m effort in pole vault at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Cagini Pilgrim had a great day for the Lewis University Flyers. The freshman won the men’s 60m in a personal-best 6.81, now tied for first in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
