Cricket West Indies has officially added the services of batting consultant Bob Carter to its team. The British-born, former first-class cricketer was appointed on September 1 for one year initially to work across men’s and women’s cricket.
Carter brings decades of cricket coaching experience, including a stint as the head coach of the New Zealand national women’s team from 2019 to 2022. Prior to that, he served as a high-performance coach with New Zealand Cricket from 2012 to 2025. Although officially retired from full-time coaching, Carter has recently completed consultancies with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Lord’s, as well as a coaching clinic with the Saint Lucia Cricket High-Performance Centre.
His first assignment will be a regional tour later this month, taking him to Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, the Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands.
This appointment comes just months before the West Indies Men participate in their second consecutive ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February and March 2028.
“West Indies cricket has a proud tradition of producing outstanding batsmen, and my job is to help build the base to produce future generations of world-class players,” Carter said in a release from Cricket West Indies.
“My focus has always been on supporting players and coaches to reach their full potential, and I am looking forward to working alongside the regional and high-performance coaches to help achieve that.”
Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket at CWI, said: “West Indies teams will participate in at least six global events over the next 24 to 30 months, including the Men’s World Cup Qualifier next February. Bob’s immediate job is to raise the technical standard heading into these events.”
