A grieving mother who saw her son gunned down in her presence in Dennery on Monday night, has appealed to young men to abandon their guns.

Sharon Flavius made the appeal in an interview with St Lucia Times.

Flavius is the mother of Thomas Florent, 28, alias ‘Cole’ one of two men who sustained fatal gunshot wounds in Dennery village.

Police identified the other victim as Daniel Prospere, 19, alias ‘Cesario’.

Sharon Flavius spoke against the backdrop of previous gun violence in Dennery as well of reports of sporadic gunfire and the seizure of illegal guns, ammunition and drugs in the community by police.

“What is going on right now in the community, I feel is not good enough,” Flavius asserted.

“Young men just passing and killing one another – and for what? No reason,” she declared.

The mother recalled that she was sitting with her son when he died in her very presence.

“I carry that boy for nine months,” Flavius declared.

“Regardless of how he was living his life, he doesn’t deserve that,” she told St Lucia Times.

“He is bad to some, but he is good to some,” Flavius observed.

The mother said the people of Dennery need peace.

She recalled that this week police seized guns in the village.

“Please, put down the guns,” Flavius urged.

“We need peace,” she declared.

And she explained that there are elderly people living in the community who cannot sleep because of the sound of gunfire.

In addition, Flavius told St Lucia Times that bullets are entering the homes of elderly people.

“Give us a chance,” she appealed.
