Pierre Says SLP Is “Already On The Campaign Trail.”

A little over a year after its landslide victory at the July 26, 2021, general elections, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has declared that his Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) is already campaigning.

Pierre made the comments to reporters on Monday on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting.

On Saturday, his Castries East Constituency held its 34th annual general meeting under the theme ‘Protecting the Victory’.

Pierre explained to reporters that protecting the victory meant keeping Saint Lucia away from the United Workers Party (UWP).

“Keeping Saint Lucians away from being called jackasses – from being called barking dogs,” he explained.

“We maintain it. We have to protect the victory. The victory was hard-fought, and we’re going to protect it by all legal means. In fact, we’re already on the campaign trail,” the Castries East MP declared.

He reiterated remarks made at his constituency group AGM about understanding when one has outlived his usefulness in politics.

In this regard, Pierre asserted that had he been leader of a party that received such a defeat in the last elections losing “John Compton’s seat” he would have resigned.

“I would have known that here is the situation where Micoud North – Micoud North is the bastion of the United Workers Party led by Sir John Compton and you lost it in the election. I would have known that I had outlived my usefulness,” Pierre asserted.

The United Workers Party suffered a massive loss at the 2021 polls, managing to hold on to a mere two of the eleven seats it formerly had in the 17-seat House of Assembly.

“I have represented Castries East for six terms, and the time will come when I will know when the people say I must go,” Pierre told reporters

  1. The harder u campain the more people will desire to vote yall out.this time the ones who didnt vote u out will make the effort, low class tricksters lets see how ugly u will get come election time lets see the deceit empty promises and lies boil n bubble on the surface, the shallow minds u conquered last election will not be enough to win this one.

  2. I’m young but not dumb never will I vote for slp again can’t get a fxxking job under your administration but want the people to keep the man that can provide the job away fool me once not twice

  3. he still adressing the UN… they said chas wasa travelling minister so now what we have? i don’t vote period.. vincy will pass us soon.. pretty soon!

  4. Hahaha. After one year you are on the campaign trail. Wow. The people put you in to work for them and you are busy campaigning. Looks like you all are running scared and want to pull a fast one in due time. SLP will be their own demise. Anyways what else SLP knows other than campaigning. It shows that Philip cannot govern and be a leader. He wants to keep gloating. Well campaign all you want you have not worked to gain my vote. Your hacks are too insultive for me to vote for your party. Your cabinet of ministers are too questionable to give you a second chance and your display and representation of the country within this one year is a disgrace.

  5. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Most Honorable tell them ha ha ha ha haha hah……if they only knew we started campaigning as of July 27th 2021. I like your style you are a realist ha ha ha ha ha ha ha call the a snap election now Most Honorable I know we could take Micoud South easssssy they tired of him and run that Crazy Ball Head Felix out of town.

  6. It will just be a matter of time for us to know whats coming there is something that just doesn’t add up from the PM’s recent comments. SLP supporters hope you will not be disappointed 😢

  7. You taught persons to be impatient in opposition, so why do you think the same does not apply to you currently? It is coming back to bite you ever harder, whether you start campaigning or not. The youth have no patience to wait for any government. Just watch the pattern for the past three terms. You should fulfill what was promised instead of concentrating on victory at the next polls. Use our taxpayers money to pay our public servants and to build, or complete or do maintenance on existing buildings or roads.

  8. It’s quite simple. Instead of pouring energy, time and resources into campaigning you should be governing. St. Lucia is in a dire state and all hands should be on deck to work towards making things more equitable not working on retaining a victory, when the next elections are several years away.

  9. The poor people voted for a minimum wage but up to now the current administration refuse to address the issue . There are people working 16 hours a day for 48 dollars

  10. U have played the blame game all your life that u have gotten a chance and can’t archive anything that’s y Mr Anthony never gave you a chance, now I have realize y he never gave u a chance this is y he stepped a side and didn’t rally with u, and let you trapped your self u just an opposition leader for sure which is not bad and we need man that can opposed but not playing the blame game and cannot archive nothing, never learned nothing from Mr Anthony I have said this before that govern, man don’t continue what an other party has started because it’s not their project just to get at each other which make no sense, at the ending of the day the country and it’s people are being left behind no progress and it have been so for years and decades now they beginning to realize it makes no sense every other Caribbean countries are developing and Lucia and it’s people are been left to suffer, the mentally t of some people are so backwards that we are stacked and can’t move forward they rather divide them self and be none progressive and it’s ok lord help us eradicate this stigma can’t continue like this seriously and point blank at the ending of the day it’s for the people in the interest of the people SMFH corruption corruption where has it gone to waiting patiently

  11. Yes we know what chas said and did so we need no reminder of that. We also know what y out said so talk to us about that. What about taxes. Talk to us about how u will remove it from person’s earning less than $4000 when we are burdened with it. One third of our salary is taxen in tax by inland revenue. It goes to show that both parties are liars who continue to think that we are fools. While you have started your campaign please be sure to select a candidate for choiseul because the last one you had cannot fool the people anymore. They do t see her now nor hear her. Choiseul thought for once we were having a woman. Someone who will understand be more compassionate but oh no. We should have known that she is not a down to earth person. She turns her nose at others. If she thinks she will contest the election and one year before she will pretend to want to walk the ground then she has something coming. Choiseulians knew who she was and many did not want her but those of us who were fool by her and didn’t know much convenced others to vote but now we know her true characteristics we will not be fool again. Also Mr Pierre while u are still I n campaigning mode don’t forget that all of your candidates have to work extra hard than last election to secure a win. All the best but keep in mind that God has his eyes on you all. Peace and love

  12. Imagine being famous for commenting for St. Lucia Times. I hope they pay you well, old chap.

  14. There you have it ladies & Gents,Our Top economist has spoken…Those if you hoping for minimum wage to be hiked or like our great economist said “Livable wage” then you’ll be in for the wait of your life…Gimmicks upon gimmicks upon gimmicks lol… let the good times roll.

  15. Instead of boasting about a win, bashing the past administration’s flaws and “campaigning” how about you act as if maybe you’re the prime minister? Because for over a year now you’ve done quite the opposite and it is deplorable to say the least. Address the matters that need dire attention instead of talking about ” Non of my ministers have called saint lucians jackasses” First of all, woopty doo do you want a medal? Grow up and fill the shoes you so desperately wanted to when you were in opposition gunning for the big seat. All the matters you brought up during your actual campaigning season why have you gone silent all of a sudden?

  16. The prime Minister is a genuine dek-dek. Has anything changed in the Castries East constituency during your six terms of representation? How have you improved the lives of the residents? What improvements have you brought to the constituency? have you managed to change the stigma associated with the Marchand community? Following the death of a tourist some years past; what defense did you offer when an SLP Parliamentarian asked: What is a tourist doing in Marchand? grow up, start thinking and talk sense.

  17. Like we didn’t know. Mr PM is like you take St Lucians for fools. Your victory acceptance speech hardly thank those who gave you the victory instead you were already campaigning. You started campaigning in 2016 and has not stopped to this point.
However what you are forgetting is that we elected you to govern not to campaign. You have done nothing if we really look at it but piggyback on what the last administration was supposed to have finished before the last elections, especially those that King was responsible for. Then you have taken reckless decisions like that PPP arrangement for the refurbished airport, when SLASPA was going to build us a brand new airport. Well only someone like you with no vision would say you have never seen an airport with two floors. I wonder if you ever travelled.
Mr PM we are out of patience thanks to you and Frederick who taught us how to be so during the last administration. Stop your campaigning and govern the blasted country, which is crumbling right before you blind eyes. Cause if you don’t all your campaigning will only make you suffer a worse defeat than Chastenet did.

  18. Please post my comment.
You can post all Lowgrade nonsense but always keeping others out.

  19. The prevailing partisan duopoly is sustained via an apathetic, politically immature citizenry!

The barking in this forum is an effective means of reducing the signal-to-noise ratio, so that the quinquennial game of political musical chairs continues unabated.

  20. Boy you will never win. We will not vote for your inner circle boys and their wives and jabals to get fat at tax payers expense whilst those who actually worked to get your the victory are sidelined. We won’t vote so long standing card bearing supporters will be told that they are the downfall of the party. We won’t vote for you because you keep saying the treasury is empty when you have to help the struggling people whilst your boys and girls get fat. We won’t vote so you can kick us to the curb after putting our lives and livelihoods on the line and to be neglected whilst turncoats get rich. We won’t vote for you because you disrespected us and insulted us by using us to win and then treat us like nobodies. We won’t vote for you so you can reject and decline our calls after you win but during elections time all calls get answered. Campaign all you want but never again will me and mines vote for SLP We are done and don’t come near out doors please.

  21. Can we send in a petition to have the country divided by 2… I want to see my country like a little Miami whereas some want to see it as Haiti. Pip you never stopped, have not started to govern because you don’t know how. Every member of parliament is pulling your toe well whatever you have left . Pls give up and let a real man govern… mwe pa sa pewe acor ..
