Youth Development & Sports Minister Kenson Casimir, opposition leader Allen Chastanet, and the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. (SLFA) have praised Saint Lucia’s performance at the CONCACAF Under 15 Football tournament.

Nicaragua became champions of League B after edging Saint Lucia 2-1 at the Stadion Rignaal Jean Francisca in Willemstad, Curacao, Sunday.

“Though I am heartbroken that some decisions didn’t go our way, I am indeed encouraged by the fight shown by team St Lucia in the CONCACAF Under 15 Football Final,” Minister Casimir wrote on Facebook.

The Gros Islet MP described as ‘absolutely commendable’, the local team’s second-place finish at that level.

“We will continue to work with the SLFA and stakeholders to ensure this set of players make it to the next level,” Casimir stated.

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet said the Saint Lucia team’s performance had been impressive.

“Although our Under 15 boys football team placed 2nd in this year’s CONCACAF finals, I am sure that you will agree that their performance throughout the tournament has been impressive. Congratulations guys! We are proud of you,” the United Workers Party (UWP) leader stated.

On its Facebook page, the Saint Lucia Football Association said the local team’s performance was remarkable.

“During the tournament, Team St. Lucia played six matches in eight days, scored 11 goals while conceding only two, the latter in the finals. A remarkable achievement,” the SLFA observed.

Shevon Byron, who finished with six goals from as many matches, scored Saint Lucia’s lone goal in the finals

  1. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEAM!! The private investment in our young footballers… made by the various football clubs across the island, fuelled by the sweat, love and passion of coaches and parents, has surely paid dividends. The SLFA and the Sports Ministry would do well to give more tangible support to these unsung heroes.

Last Sunday the SAB was a hub of talent and vitality as budding ballers like Ruben Harris and Shiloh John displayed their tremendous skill with the ball. Check them out on Instagram @reubenmichaelharris and @shilohjohnofficial. Good vibes!! Let us curtail the endless criticism and big up our young boys/men for once!!
