Saint Lucia Deepens Engagement With Africa

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has announced a deepening of engagement with the African continent after attending the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum 2023.

Guyana hosted this week’s event.

“We have made some strides in deepening our engagement with the African continent. African Export-Import Bank has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade and investment flows between Africa and the Caribbean, offering the financial instruments and support needed to bring our business communities closer together,” Pierre wrote on Facebook.

“Saint Lucia remains committed to fostering cultural and educational exchanges, aiming to bridge our heritage and histories while building solid partnerships between our educational institutions for knowledge transfer and research,” the Minister for Finance, Economic Development, and the Youth Economy explained.

Pierre disclosed that Saint Lucia has entered into a Facility Agreement deal with the Afreximbank valued at USD 6 million.

He said the funds would further renovate school facilities across the island, particularly those affected by Tropical Storm Bret.

The Saint Lucia Prime Minister asserted that the journey ahead was full of opportunity and potential.

“The connections we forge, the partnerships we build, and the initiatives we undertake today will pave the way for a future of prosperity and collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean,” Pierre observed.

  1. This is awesome, as Africa continues its quest to regain control of it resources and use them to benefit the countries in Africa more, the road will not be easy. In some of the African countries, where some world media have called the change of government a coup, the change was actually a revolution. Removing puppet governments in Africa that were acting in the best interest of colonizer countries, is the right thing to do.
