SLSWMA Announces Holiday Waste Collection Arrangements

The Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA) wishes to inform the public that there will be no waste collection on Monday, 25 December 2023 (Christmas Day) and Monday, 1 January 2024 (New Year’s Day).

Households who usually receive a Monday collection will receive the service one day before or after Christmas and New Year’s Days.

Additionally, the Tuesday collection scheduled for most communities in the Northern part of the island is rescheduled to Wednesday, 27 December 2023 and Wednesday, 3 January 2024, with the exception of Moulin A Vent, La Feuille, Caye Mange, La Riviere Mitant, and Monchy Central.

Residents are asked to pay attention to announcements over the media, the Facebook page or through Instagram for the revised collection dates.

The Authority can also be reached at 453-2208 or WhatsApp at 724-5544/285-2762.

The Deglos Sanitary Landfill and the Vieux-Fort Solid Waste Management Facility will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Both facilities will remain open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Christmas Holiday and New Year’s Holiday.

Residents of the affected areas are encouraged to take heed of the announcements as poor waste management contributes to the defacement of communities and degradation of our natural resources and impacts negatively our health and the economy.

Therefore, make every Christmas and New Year activity clean and safe for All.

  1. For the Monday collection, I read a day before or after. Does this mean it’s up to the residents to decide whether to put the garbage out a day before or after?

  2. There are changes in the collection for different communities who receive a collection on a Monday. For the Northern part of the island the Monday collection has been rescheduled to Tuesday..for the Southern part of the island the collection has been rescheduled to Sunday. Please contact the Authority at 453-2208, WhatsApp at 724-5544 to find out the change in collection for your community. You can also visit our Facebook page where all the collection schedules have been posted for the affected communities.

  3. The workers deserve a holiday as well. They do excellent work, all year round, with little pay and less thanks.

I hope they have a joyous day of rest, surrounded by family, love peace and health and that these gifts are theirs throughout the year.

Thank you, dear workers, you have more than earned some days of rest.
