The French Navy frigate Ventôse crew, assisted by other law enforcement agencies, seized 1.2 tonnes of cocaine at sea off the Martinique coast on Monday.

The Force Armée Aux Antilles disclosed on its Facebook page that the seizure occurred after the Ventôse intercepted a sailboat suspected of trafficking drugs to Europe.

Guided by information from the National Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations, the French Navy intervened in unfavorable weather conditions in heavy seas more than 2,000 kilometres off the coast of Martinique.

The frigate’s crew discovered forty-four bales of cocaine and arrested three individuals who were aboard the sailboat.

With this 8th seizure, the French Forces in the Caribbean, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, would have removed more than 11 tonnes of narcotics from distribution so far this year, according to the Force Armée Aux Antilles.
