Firefighters spent several hours monitoring and controlling a bushfire in Vieux Fort on Saturday.
Vieux Fort Fire Station received the bush fire report at 4:05 pm and responded.
However, Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) spokeswoman Stacy Joseph disclosed that it was not until 10:00 pm that the firefighters left the scene.
Joseph said the fire was in an inaccessible area and did not threaten life or property.
Nevertheless, she explained that the responding crew established a fire barrier using an appliance’s water to minimise potential damage.
The fire department revealed that 2018 it responded to 499 bushfires, a whopping 891 in 2019 and 587 in 2020.
In 2021, there were 341 bushfires responses and 309 in 2022.
According to the Saint Lucia Criminal Code, setting an outdoor fire requires legal authorisation.
