Tribe of Twel headed by veteran mas man Adrian Augier is the band of the year for Saint Lucia Carnival 2024. The band’s portrayal for this year was entitled “Wade in the Water.”
The winners in the various categories, which were judged during the parade of the bands on carnival Monday as well as J’ouvert and ole mas, were announced during a press briefing Wednesday.
Nine costumed bands participated in this year’s Lucian Carnival Parade of the Bands and seven in the J’ouvert Parade, held early Monday morning.
Tribe of Twel scored 429 points to secure the top spot. In second position was Xuvo Carnival with 392 points, portraying Alien. Just 4 Fun’s “ROAR: Rise of a revolution” was third with 371 points.
Tribe of Twel also won the “best designed” band award, “best portrayal of theme” and individual of the year award with Sharon Tanner’s “Sisters in the stream” costume.
The spirit of carnival award went to Fuzion Mas playing Phantos. Fuzion also won the mas on the move award while Xuvo won section of the year.
For J’ouvert, Back in Time, the largest J’ouvert band this year won the top prize. They portrayed “West Indies Cricket: Our pride, our passion.” In second place was Mudsters and third, Wee Outside.
Cuthbert Modeste’s witty depiction “Jars on the square,” won the ole mas title.
The winner of the Road March was also announced Wednesday. Ricky T was crowned king of the road for the song “Look something to talk about,” which was very popular among revelers on carnival Monday and Tuesday.
