A man who mounted the ‘All In’ sculpture in Castries and waved a Dominica flag has attracted criticism from Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire.
Hilaire, Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries, told reporters Thursday that what occurred was ‘totally unacceptable’.
“If somebody does that, it should be strongly discouraged. It is just unacceptable,” the Minister asserted.
“People have to still respect our monuments, our paintings,” Hilaire declared.
The Minister acknowledged that sometimes people consume alcohol, and in their enthusiasm and exuberance, they can stray.
“We should always, both as law enforcement as well as citizens discourage people from doing that nonsense. You can’t go on our monuments, you need to get off,” Hilaire asserted.
“Maybe they should have taken that person and put them in a safe place to cool off until the following morning,” he stated.
The ‘All In’ sculpture is at the roundabout adjacent to the Castries Central Market and picturesque Castries Waterfront.
The work by Jallim Eudovic was unveiled on 3rd October 2019, to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Saint Lucia’s Independence.
It has been described as an allegoric sculpture that ‘tells the story’ of our ancestors.

puhlease. This is just the symptom of a larger problem. Anything goes in this place. Don’t be a hypocrite now and try to selectively enforce rules, laws and regulations. The funniest one I heard came from a singer on one of those trucks: “The police will shut us down if we sing any obscenities”. Instant belly splitting laugh. Every damn bar in Castries blasting loud obscene music all day long every damn day for the entire city to hear and nada is ever done about it. Why the pretense for carnival? Y’all develop standards for 2 days. Man this circus masquerading as a country is totally entertaining.
If nothing was done to this man, when loads of police men and women were in the vicinity, I hope nothing will be done when individuals SLP or UWP go up there to promote their party flag
Where was the police?
Mr Hilaire, instead of moaning about the incident, you should make sure something was done about it – make an example of the “moron” who committed this unthinkable act, by embarrassing him.
Completely appalling! As a Dominican this is embarrassing and in no way represent the views or behavior of all Dominicans. The person should make a public apology.
Was that the only behavior on the streets during carnival that was unacceptable???….we are such hypocrites sometimes.
Meanwhile women 90% nude with camel toes bigger than my 12ft shoes, overly expose with vulgarism whilst toddlers and infants feast on their favourite ice-cream..the men are as equally guilty as a society …the hypocrisy from those top officials is perturbed…..I swear I once heard a SLP supporter say chastenet dat put that there so he can enslave slavery in the ppl’s dem mind,to me the idea is to simply remind our younger generation that our country begun from thus era….in all reality Hilaire more upset that some other nation was getting a spotlite afterall his country also evolve from the backs of that monument…..ppl ppl ppl y’all need to check what is really going on,the fights of blacks upon blacks will never cease it will only decrease…famous last words of the colonialist lords before they brainwashly abolished slavery….Mr.Hilaire you have more serious issues to deal with…our kids are killing each other,St.Lucia cry blood.
Actually, if this was Martinique, Grenada or Barbados he would have been arrested and charged! If this was Russia, he would have been faced with a life sentence.
The same statue y’all gave some much ridicule when it was commissioner in 2019. Forked tongue politicians!
SIMON SAYS
There’s a simple solution to this. Responsibility should lie with the Bands and their leaders.
SIMON SAYS
REVELERS needs to be aware of the DOs and DON’Ts
SIMON SAYS
To win an award Bands should be graded on decipline of their Revelers, Time, Costume Maintenance (too many Costumes are thrown all over the streets even before the second day). etc.
SIMON SAYS
DEDUCT POINTS from them for failing to adhere to the rules and SIMON KNOWS there will be a difference.
SIMON SAYS
Our local Bands should really take page from the French Bands.
SIMON SAYS
Year after year the French Bands participate in our Carnival and not once are they ever reconized by the Carnival organisers. There should be awarded some prize at least.
SIMON SAYS
I am sure if the French Bands are awarded a prize maybe more French Bands would come to Saint Lucia.
SIMON SAYS
Just Simon Says.
You all politicians and citizens of St. Lucia are seriously too much already – it’s a joke and a crying shame all of the nonsense that goes on for real.
My dear saint lucians….I love you all BUT what’s the difference between this act and politicians erecting a crappy unsightly vendors enclave in the middle of town? What’s the difference between this act and businesses erecting entrance ramps and steps ON the public sidewalks? What’s the difference with this and politicians unilaterally deciding to erecting a so called halls of monstrosity in the middle of the city despite outcry feom many? The difference is that a regular man did it and people shun him, when a politician does it, they say you are against progress!!!
Hw should have been instantly arrested.
Are we helping our neighboring islands who were destroyed by hurricane Beryl rebuild ?
or have we been donating any supplies ?
Tell me, oh please tell me which law did he break or what offense did he commit and why would the police arrest him and for what? This illiterate Lucian would like to know.
Politicians, who needs them. Women with nothing on stimulating sex with any man who cares to pump their behinds at a family event is fine but a drunken man waving a flag on a monument is vilified. What comes next minister?
Much to say about nothing here really. Mr Minister you see that happening London, New York every weekend.
The man was not attempting to damage with paint or piss.
A patriotic Dominican enjoying St Lucia Carnival, simple.
