Dominic Fedee, the second deputy political leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), has taken the Philip J. Pierre administration to task over Saint Lucia’s crime situation, declaring that the government’s response has been lukewarm and weak.
The former Tourism Minister spoke Wednesday at an opposition news conference.
Saint Lucia has so far recorded 46 homicides in 2024, primarily due to gun violence.
Fedee noted that the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) was about to celebrate its third anniversary in office after winning the July 26, 2021 general elections.
However, the former Ansse La Raye-Canaries MP stated that since the SLP came to power, most Saint Lucians would agree there has been an upsurge in crime.
According to the UWP official, the situation continues to rock Saint Lucia’s very existence.
“We continue to be very concerned about the level of ill-preparedness, the level of inadequate response from the Saint Lucia Labour Party administration,” Fedee told the news conference.
“They cannot continue to tell us that they are not police officers and it is not their job. We elected them to lead, and lead they must, and if they can’t lead then the suggestion is call elections, get out of government, resign. Pass on the portfolio to other people who can do the job,” the former Minister asserted.
“We must not accept from the Saint Lucia Labour Party administration the very lukewarm and weak responses to the crime situation thus far,” Fedee said.

Boy Fedee we are not looking for criticism we are looking for solutions..you said nothing here but your greedy quest for power…all of you are a bunch of money mongers together with the magistrates and lawyers…the public been urging for steeper penalties and revoked bail for illegal unlicensed firearm but no the bail monies and suitable land assurities looking sweet in the coffers…..Fedee you guys were in there and could have done so but y’all kept pussyfooting because its fact that neither y’all nor y’all families being affected by this Carnage.
AND THATS FACTS
SLP NEEDS TO GO
Who witit
They say you should not politicize crime. But to be frank, this crime situation has gotten out of hand and someone must get the blame and must take responsibility. That falls squarely on Pierre’s plate whether he likes it or not. Now to be clear, I am neither on the side of SLP nor UWP. I am on the side of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucian people. I am for the government who on the day of election presents a better manifesto for moving the country forward…too many time people become party hacks and have party self interest above the interest of the nation. Now Pierre to be honest can do better, his response has been abysmal, found wanting and he has not been in the forefront leading the team. Pierre should me making press release when the moment calls for it especially in this societal crisis. Pierre should be marshalling the forces l, making a public statement along with the commissioner of police letting the people know what are his next steps…where is the minister for crime? Where is the Crime Minister? This guy is unseen, unheard, no show .. nothing, nada, zilch, zok…if these leaders don’t sense the urgency of what is happening to Saint Lucia, they are not ready for the job. I agree with Fedee, the response has been weak from the government. If I were police commissioner, I would make a press release, making a big show of it so that the entire nation knows and I would give those good for nothings who threatened the police after their saka boy was quickened to the land beyond the living 24 hours to hand themselves in.. otherwise we (SSU) are coming for you armed to the teeth.. a clear and open threat was made against police and that in itself demanded a harsh response from the authorities….you guys are too soft on these criminals. The nation is breaking under the scourge of gun violence and we sse no adequate response from the government…if you want ideas on ways to move forward…contact me..I have some ideas that will move things forward.
Anonymous you said SLP needs to go, I support you, but which party will replace it? Do you remember this say “Kenny cannot do it but I will ” di he solve the crime problem? Did he do anything for the youth? Name it. Fedee you are wasting your time we don’t want you anymore. You did not do anything for us at Millet.
@ paul Regis….well vote for your SLP man that’s doing so much for you. Infantile thinking!
Fedee, your criticism holds no weight. What solution you and your party have? The young people refuse to get a decent job, they thrive on theft and believe in their guns.
Government has a lot in place going for them so they can live a better life.
In context,no government around the world can stop crime. You can have all the plans in place, however, these young men and women clearly shows that they don’t want to work.I challenge you that another five years by your government will not abate the situation, so there’s no way you’re coming back there to enrich yourself and your family, friends, etc
No solutions just repeated criticism.. Over the past three years there has been significant improvements in the quality of life of most St.Lucians. Government can’t solve all the problems instantly and the non partisan knows this.
The government has a massive endorsement from the electorate .. my advice is Mr. Prime Minister maintain the momentum keep improving and continue to serve and put Lucians first.
lol lol Fedee you just like your supporters man. The upsurge in crime can be traced back to when you were in power. Is there a part 2 to this article where you offer potential solutions?
Wheers Massa
Stinger, I rather have an infantile thinking than a THIEF thinking. Right now my mom who is a retired police will get an increase in her pension. Did the UWP do anything to improve the lives of the pensioners? These are facts
