Vieux Fort drug accused granted $50 000 bail

The two individuals charged in connection with a recent drug bust in Vieux Fort have been granted bail.

Andrina Epiphane and Shaquille Walker appeared before the Second District Court on Monday and were each granted bail of $50 000, in cash or with a suitable surety. They also have other bail conditions which were not detailed in a statement from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), which gave an update on the case.

The two were arrested last week following a coordinated police operation led by the RSLPF’s Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit, which intercepted a suspicious package that arrived at the port and was later retrieved in Vieux Fort.

The package was found to contain four kilogrammes of compressed cannabis and two kilogrammes of cannabis resin, concealed within household items.

Epiphane and Walker were subsequently charged with possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis resin, possession with intent to supply cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis resin, and importation of controlled drugs.

The RSLPF had also confirmed that a parallel financial investigation was ongoing, with support from the Financial Intelligence Authority, to examine possible money laundering and to pursue asset forfeiture proceedings against vehicles linked to the matter.
