Saint Lucia’s Shan Lucien Is Miss Jaycees 2024

Saint Lucia Carnival Queen Shan Lucien is the new Miss Jaycees Queen. Lucien won the title at the annual pageant in Antigua on the evening of Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Now in its 61st year, the event is part of Antigua’s carnival celebrations.

The pageant featured eleven delegates representing Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Grenada, the United States Virgin Islands, Saint Lucia,  St. Kitts & Nevis, Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Haiti.

Under the theme ‘Beauty Unbroken,’ the contestants took to the stage first in their introductory number, adorned in vibrant national and cultural costumes.

The interview, swimwear, talent, and evening wear segments followed.

Organizers successfully weaved a thread of traveling through the islands, utilizing vivid imagery of a cruise, the islands’ vibrant culture, and the Caribbean waters to bring the theme to life.

The event also captured the strength and resilience of Caribbean women and the contestants’ talent.

The show lasted over four hours, and in the end, in addition to announcing the top three places, prizes were awarded in various categories.

The Miss Photogenic award went to Miss Guadeloupe Kaena Rangasamy, Best Interview, Miss Grenada Amonai Francis, and best swimwear Miss Antigua Desrie Markham.

The final results were as follows:

  • Second runner-up, Miss Grenada Amonai Francis
  • First runner-up, Miss Antigua Desrie Markham
  • The winner, Saint Lucia’s Shan Lucien

Lucien also won prizes for ‘Most True To Theme,’ “Best Talent,” “Best Modeling Skills In Evening Wear,” and “Best Evening Wear.”

In the talent segment, Lucien wowed the audience by playing the piano and singing Alicia Key’s “Superwoman.”

The song celebrated notable Caribbean women, such as Mia Mottley of Barbados, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, Lisa Hanna of Jamaica, and others, whose images were displayed on screen during the performance.

On June 29, 2024, Lucien (Miss Bounty) won the National Carnival Pageant here in Saint Lucia.

Following her win in Antigua, Saint Lucia’s Carnival organizers have congratulated Lucien via various Social Media platforms.

“Here’s to your incredible achievements and the bright future ahead,” the official Carnival Saint Lucia Facebook page said.

  1. She reminded me so much of Shirnya Stephens who won Carnival queen in the early 2000’s. At the time Shirnya was not what was considered the typical pageant contestant in physical appearance and build, however just like Shirnyah, the two of them are top tier in grace, class, pride, intelligence and talent. Shirnyah was a dancer and actress. I belueve she sang as well. They radiate through their wide smiles too. Over the years proceeding carnival queen Shurnya came out of her shell (in a good way), she evolved, blossomed and had an incredible glow up along with her success. I see this lovely young lady doing the same. Not becoming the typical “beauty standard” symbol like the others, but a strong female role model.

  2. Shan Lucien is a beautiful woman inside and out…I am really proud of her because in her confident humility-she shines very bright. In my opinion – and I have been involved in pageantry for a very long time …she did very well in every category…Shan did well in the interview segment…however Ms. Grenada did very well because she provided statistics in her answer.
Also, I love the way the questions were presented to the contestants by the passengers in that skit/segment. The questions were all different but very relevant to present day issues.
@#slucien@DPLucian@Sly# ..kudos to the team who travel with her ..parents, dress designer/maker, hair stylist, make-up artist etc. etc. you guys rock.

  3. Most Lucians are not really nice when it comes to congratulating others. Shan Lucien accomplishment was remarkable on every level. She competed amongst 10 other young women, including an attorney who were doing all they could to win this title. In the end, she was the one who received the crown – that alone speaks volumes. The last Jaycees St. Lucia queen winner was 39 years ago before Shan was born. All Lucians should be celebrating her victory from this highly competitive arena.
Shan Lucien — I celebrate you and I am thankful for you, your confidence and humility – this is the beginning of more to come. You are a beautiful young woman inside and out and it radiates. The sky is the limit – Godspeed

  4. @Wow, very well said. However, there shouldn’t be a typical beauty standard for black women. Plastic surgeons and certain factions promoted a certain look in recent years. But I am happy to see that they are beginning to change their perspective and see the beauty in other faces that do not look like a Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton. Back in the 90’s the black faces on the cover of big magazines were that of Naomi Campbell, Beverly Johnson and Tyra Banks. All shades of chocolate brown. Congrats Shan. You represented us well.

  5. So proud of Shan. She was her authentic self, with beauty, intelligence and grace. She is also humble and generous with her. The world is her oyster. From a very proud aunt

  6. You did it t again my girl and the sky is the limit for you. I have confidence in you even when I looked at you as a student of vfcss. Pleasant , confident, intelligent and that love of music. I am so proud of you my girl. This little black girl radiates an inner and outward Beauty that’s a pleasure to see. Mrs Lucien I know u are so proud of yr one and only. Continue with the help of God to be her support system always. You go o girl. Peace and love
