Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred is into the semifinals of the women’s 100m at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. Running at 6:00 am Friday in Lane 9 at the Stade de France, the World Indoor Champion over 60m easily negotiated Round 1 of her first event.
“One race at a time is the best way to handle it,” said Alfred ahead of the race. She completed the heat in 10.95 seconds, into a headwind of -0.7 metres per second. The 23-year-old from Ciceron had the third-fastest reaction time, 0.161 of a second. She finished well clear of New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs (11.08 seconds).
Previously, 2023 World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA, 24 years old, won the opening heat in 10.94 seconds.
It is the first time at the Olympics for Richardson and Alfred, both of whom are expected to be strong contenders for gold.
Alfred and Richardson have both been drawn in the second of three semifinal runs from 1:50 pm Saturday afternoon Caribbean time.
Also in that heat will be Jamaican champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Great Britain’s Imani-Lara Lansiquot. Lansiquot, a tourism ambassador for Saint Lucia, is of local heritage.

Well done Juju!
Is.of local heritage? What the heck does that mean? Say what you mean and mean what u say. Stop sounding colloquial.
We are only claiming JuJu for this race!
Smh – If Imani-Lara claims us, we claim her too. Last time I checked, she does qualify for a St Lucian passport. We just need to back our Juju up for this one. Lol
Lansiquot’s family is from Canaries – hence her local heritage!
She was born in London and representing Great Britain, hence heritage does’nt count.
PJP will even make her PM for publicity lucians lost
If Lansiquot has Lucian blood and she’s is proud of it, heck, she’s a Lucian, period! She had nothing to do we the decision of her being born in England. More power to her.
