A woman struck by a vehicle near the Bisee junction in Castries on Saturday has succumbed to multiple injuries.
Reports indicate that a Ford Ranger pickup hit the woman as she crossed the highway median.
After learning of the incident, emergency personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) Headquarters in Castries rushed to the scene at about 8:03 p.m.
The responders found the woman, who appeared to be in her late forties to early fifties, motionless and unresponsive.
In addition, she exhibited no vital signs.
The emergency personnel administered CPR and continued doing so as they transported the victim to the OKEU Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The pickup driver, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, was badly shaken due to the road incident but was not injured.

People, people, people, use the crossing on that highway. The ppl who cross in these areas are in most cases using the space between the metal pole and the medians, making it difficult for drivers to see them at nights. That area isn’t even on a stretch. Some people don’t even take time to cross, they dash across the road hoping to make it, in some cases they don’t make allowances in the event they fall while dashing across! Drivers may use their discretion to allow crossing in an area which isn’t allowed, but some pedestrians take crazy risks. Have patience when crossing and make eye contact, also say “Thank You” when drivers allow you to cross!
So terribly sad! Someone has lost her life: family and loved ones undoubtedly in shock and despair. Their lives have been changed.
However let us also think of the driver. Many of us will find multiple reasons to blame him. However please consider his situation. Going about his business. Maybe heading home. Or meeting friends. In a split second, through no fault of his, his life is changed. Brutally. Irrevocably. An interminable wait for traffic investigators. Unending meetings with Police and lawyers….. you get the picture. But! All this pales in comparison to the one horrifying fact. This individual has to live the rest of his life with the knowledge that he took the life of another human being. I pray to God that he finds the strength to carry that burden.
I know some people have a fear of heights but it is safer to take the cross over instead of jumping over the median barrier in my humble opinion …
They just not learning 🤦🏾♀️… RIP though
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
No one is suppose to cross the median because of the risk..but it’s definitely a no no for drunk ppl, infants, elderly, women, disables, ppl carrying load and so forth, the only ppl I’d expect to take this chance is some sober ti-neg.I was flabbergasted yesterday morning seeing an elderly man anticipating to cross from behind the median ….persons living in this area should strongly advice their love ones and peers to refrain from such risk.
Just want to know if she was insane, deranged or something? Because in the night, you trying to cross such a deadly highway feet away from a well designed walk over. Is it that walkovers are not safe at night for women? If that’s a case, this can be fixed but wha….loss of life?
@Darwin Award …someone lost their life for God sake ..please have some empathy..wow 🙏🏾
Eyes to see and others who condemn Monica. She was afraid of heights and it was not the first time she did it. I’m afraid of it likewise so sometimes if there’s no one on that walk over I would wait until someone is ready to go over. So please if you don’t have anything good to say regardless how the public view her SHUT THE HELL UP. This is family to the bone.
Ok, I get it. She was afraid of heights. So, why not use the crosswalk? Oh, yeah, I have to go all dere? Yes, you do! What is more important? Your life or a little walk? I’d take the walk. And by the way, when we go to the big countries, we will use the walkovers or we walk to the crosswalks.
Excuse me but just asking; Traffic Lights?……Vs the cost of Carnival.
rip
@Angry, I’m afraid of heights as well but I don’t do stupidity. 🤷🏾♀️ If I could learn what happens to people when they take such risks and not do the same, then so should others. Like I said before, RiP to her.
They like to do that they even running across with lil children
As much as blame is strongly upon the deceased, it into account that crossovers have a negative factor too. The fear of heights is a serious issue to some while others will remain saying the crossover is available.
I knew Monica a loud mouth lady, a town boy demeanor but for me she was always herself. So I’d smile when I see her and move on.
So what are the authorities going to do about sealing that area in particular?
I recount 3 deaths in that area and yet no appropriate action has been taken. People still crossing without using the cross overs except by Gablewoods mall probably of its location.
The crossovers are not fully effective has it can utilise thief, rape and public abuse especially at nights.
We are indeed mourning the loss of the latest victim however measures have to be placed to avoid unnecessary death.
RIP Monics.
Thank you Modestus Louise for thinking about this driver. I can’t imagine how he must feel knowing he took someone’s life. This was not his fault, and yet has changed him forever. I pray for him.
Authorities can send out messages to deter members of the to refrain from crossing the highways, but in addition people must use their discretion and use the crossovers because it continues to be the safest measure for road safety.
Despite the fears of height, persons need to weigh this against the grim possibility of severe injury, paralysis or death
We like to make excuses for everyone, we have to understand LAW is LAW. its not a mango tree people are climbing when they go on the cross over. Are you saying these people are not climbing steps at S&S? They don’t go to upstairs the market. I find this excuse is lame. St. Lucians need to be educated. Respect yourself and the law.
Be symathize and not harsh, everyone makes mistake,as for me..
I remember a day from shcool a bicycle hit a boy, there were some men sitting on a sport, the father of guy was the first to get up to make fun not knowing it was his own son…
There are drivers who use the roads as if they on their on personal estate as if they flying an airplane and getting ready for lift off..There is however speed limits on the highway which is ignored by many drivers 30 to 40 mpH. Is recommended but is ignored..Many vehicles on the road with one headlight sometimes you would think it’s a moto cycle..Who knows, the driver could have been under the influence of alcohol.. I hope that the police took a breathalyzer test to ensure that he wasn’t driving drunk..
