Rain-hit Windwards tourney revamped

Two days of heavy rainfall forced organisers of the 2024 Windward Islands Cricket Board Senior Men’s 50-Over Tournament to change the tournament’s schedule.

Monday and Tuesday were washed out as a wet outfield and continued precipitation made play impossible at Mindoo Philip Park and Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. Dominica was scheduled to take on St Vincent & the Grenadines at MPP, while hosts and defending champions Saint Lucia was down to take on Grenada at the DSCG.

In a bid to ensure that the cricketers get as much play as possible, the tournament will now be played on a round-robin basis. The team with the most points will emerge as champions.

The revised schedule will see those opening games now being played from Wednesday. On Thursday, Saint Lucia and St Vincent & the Grenadines will do battle at DSCG, while at MPP, it will be Dominica versus Grenada.

Friday will be a rest day, and the following day will be the third and final round of matches. Saint Lucia takes on Dominica at DSCG, and Grenada will clash with St Vincent & the Grenadines at MPP.

The revamped fixtures will also see teams being awarded bonus points for batting and bowling, along with bonus points for runouts and dot balls bowled.
