The Praslin Bay Fisherfolk Association is organizing a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of three-year-old Zhaiyan Peter, who tragically lost his life in a house fire last week.
The vigil will occur on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 6 PM near the Praslin Community Centre.
The organisers expect the event to show community support for the grieving family and friends and have asked attendees to wear a touch of green and blue, two of Zhaiyan’s favorite colors.
A close relative of Zhaiyan told St. Lucia Times that the vigil is a meaningful way for the family to find comfort amidst their loss as they witness the community come together in support.
“The vigil is about more than remembering Zhaiyan,” the relative said. “It will be a pillar of strength and hope for me and my family, seeing the community support us during this difficult time.”
Zhaiyan Peter leaves behind a twin brother and an older brother, both of whom, according to family members, have struggled deeply since their sibling’s passing.
The family has joined the Praslin Bay Fisherfolk Association in inviting everyone to participate in the vigil honoring the young life that was ‘lost too soon’.
