Vieux Fort Infant and Primary School unseated Augier Combined to claim the District 6 track crown, edging out rivals in a tight contest at the Philip Marcellin Grounds on Friday, March 13.
The southernmost primary school tallied 270 points, overturning Blanchard Combined’s early advantage from the cricket ball throw. At that stage, Blanchard led with 51 points, Desruisseaux trailed on 43, and Vieux Fort sat fourth with 30. But by the meet’s close, Vieux Fort had surged ahead, leaving Blanchard 14 points adrift on 256.
Desruisseaux Combined finished third with 231 points, while defending champions Augier slipped to fourth on 222. Plain View Combined secured 189, Pierrot/Vige Combined posted 182, and Belle Vue Combined rounded out the standings with 164.
The meet commenced with an opening ceremony, during which Miguel Lambert of New Balance made a special presentation of a set of track shoes to the district team, demonstrating continued support for youth sports development within the district.
Athletes competed fiercely across the various track events throughout the day. District 6 will now begin preparatory activities for the Inter-District Primary Schools Championship, scheduled for April 1 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
This year, the district committee hopes to have a full-strength team in its bid to upset defending champions District 8. In 2025, several strong athletes from District 6 did not compete at the national finals. This year, fans will be looking to the likes of Theon William, Torali Eugene, Arianna Tobierre, Kyrah King, Zia Auguste, Arielle Samuel and Levi Antoine.
