On Monday, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre confirmed that he had read the strategic anti-crime plan presented by Acting Police Commissioner Verne Garde and promised he would fully support it.
Pierre, responsible for National Security, spoke on the margins of a House of Assembly sitting.
On September 2, Verne Garde began a six-month contract as the nation’s acting top cop amid a surge in homicides, much of them involving the use of illegal guns in suspected gang activity.
At his first news conference, Garde vowed not to allow Saint Lucia to be overrun by persons in conflict with the law.
“I have read it. I am waiting on him to implement it. I will give all the support that the country can afford,” Prime Minister Pierre stated regarding the Acting Police Commissioner’s strategic anti-crime plan.
Pierre reiterated that he was not satisfied with the country’s homicide spike.
However, he noted that the entire region was experiencing the same problem.
“The entire region is plagued by these gangs – the entire region and I have called on everyone – let us work together to find a solution because the entire region is plagued by gun violence,” Pierre told reporters.

Will you stop using this as a scapegoat. We know there is crime in the region and in the world, but you need to fight it here, the other countries will deal with it. The time for making excuses is over, do something
I support this comment stop with the Bs clean your yard leave the neighbors to deal with their own?
“However, he noted that the entire region was experiencing the same problem.” This statement is another confirmation that Pierre is only a follower and not a leader. A true leader wants to lead the pack, they are determined to change the status Quo and ready to be the first to make implementations. They want change and make it their signature. Obviously, in this case, Pierre is relax with with the status Quo as all the regions are experiencing the same criminal spike. He is just fine to wait to see what the others will do so he can become the PRIME COPY_CAT of St. Lucia instead of the Prime Minister of the St. Lucia. These are just some of the reasons I cannot support Pierre and will never support SLP as long as he is the leader of the party. He has not proven himself. Instead things remain status Quo with him. He will give you a fish but never train you on how to fish so you never come back to him.
First question that Pierre must confront. How many of those guys holding the security portfolio are bona fide security experts? Garbage in, garbage out. It’s like me being put in charge of the accounting department. I know nothing about accounting, so what would you expect to get?
I love his little “out” option that removes blame from him. I” will give all the support that the country can afford,” Dude as I have said before, there are no malaway security plans for fixing this place. He has to build a prison or prison annex or a detention center. Success hinges on locking the gunmen up…no bail. The guy just doesn’t get it.
Wait for it. His little security plan will go south again… just like the first one. What a clown!
When you’re a boballist there are endless means to make excuses or say whatever you want. Whatever the plan is. Let’s see if it will be efficient enough and to curb crime as well as motor accidents on our road ways. Only time will tell if it is working or another fail strategy. And stop yapping crime is everyone business and at the end you throw them under the bus.
Crime in other countries is no excuse. The government of Saint Lucia is in service to us and not other countries. The PM tried to compare us to the UK and the US based on a few recent issues but the fact is the murder rate of the UK and US is more than 5 times less than Saint Lucia. Also criminals actually get caught and prosecuted in the UK and US unlike us. The PM is acting like trump, repeating things they saw on social media or local gossip.
