Teenager Charged In Death Of 76-Year-Old ‘Jahrock’

Police have charged a sixteen-year-old male in connection with the death of 76-year-old Dunstan Butcher, alias’ Jahrock.

Due to his age, the teenager’s name has not been officially released.

However, the youngster is a former Boys Training Centre (BTC) ward who was at the institution for possessing a firearm.

Dunstan Butcher succumbed after a physical assault on Sunday at Darnley Alexander Street, Soufriere.

An autopsy on Tuesday found that the death was due to hemorrhagic shock secondary to blunt-force trauma caused by a stone.

The deceased’s daughter, Loukie Albert, told St. Lucia Times she heard her father sustained a ‘brutal’ blow to the neck, resulting in internal bleeding.

  1. Not only should his name have been released, but his picture too, what is the secret? We need to know who these perpetrators are. Let’s now wait to hear from the ‘enablers of the perpetrators’, so called ‘human rights’ lawyers!

  2. What was this all about? I know JahRock and have known him for a long time now. He spoke with sound eloquence and always liked to explain things to the people. He was from Bouton, Soufriere and if I can remember worked at Anse Chastanet a while back. Why did this youngster had to kill him? What is happening in our society these days.

He was assaulted on Sir Darnley Alexander Street. If only this teen knew who Sir Darnley was then he would have ceased from his wrongdoing. Sir Darnley was the chief justice of Nigeria from 1975 to 1979. He served as one of Nigeria’s finest judges and legal draughtsmen. He worked on the Nigerian constitution in 1960 when Nigeria became a sovereign state. He was from this neck of the woods and this street was named in his honour. Sir Darnley was a great St Lucian who have not been honoured in the same way that Sir Arthur Lewis and Sir Derek Walcott have been. He was a proud Lucian.

He left St Lucia in 1940 to study law in London and was then sent to Nigeria by the British in 1960 to help the young country of Nigeria which had just attained it’s independence from the UK. This murder should not be happening, not on the great man’s street. Sir Darnley will be turning in his grave right now. Why wasn’t this boy monitored after he left the Boy’s Training Centre? Just last week I happen to be talking to my Nigerian friends about Sir Darnley Alexander and his great legal contributions to Nigerian. This is tainting his honour. Despite Jahrock’s disposition he was well meaning and never harmed anyone. He used to quote from Bob Marley’s songs and recited other passages from books he acquired knowledge from. He had two brothers in England. One named Headley and the other Wilberforce. He had a sister called Winnifred from Fond Bernier. Poor man lost his life. This is really really sad. May his sould Rest In Peace!

  3. First and foremost if you all (in the community) recognized and knew that he was not of a sound mind and all he did was used words/insults without physically harming anyone – there should have been no reason to harm him.

None of you know from one day to the next what will befall you or your family – so have some compassion for others. On my way to work today I saw a very young guy talking to himself – I simply prayed and went about my business.

  4. So it’s only when you go missing, you’re not under age anymore. You can be any age and they’d put up.your pictures. Smh!!

  5. There was no need for that killing.JR did not get into physical fights with no one All he did was talk.He spoke with passion and pride. Why would anyone want to hurt and kill him?
I think he system had it in for him for a long time now. Whenever you speak out against injustice and oppression you are labelled and ostracised IN this country. We all have some sort of mental health problems in this island and should not be judgemental. No one is perfect.
You get sectioned for no reason in St Lucia. All you have to do is to speak out and people will think that you are barmy. The system should have given him support to help him get better…Poor bloke.

May his soul Rest in Eternal peace and may be be remembered for the positive vibes that he spread when he was alive.
