Government To Cover Surgery Costs For 6-Year-Old Shooting Victim

A six-year-old girl, a victim of a shooting incident on October 1st, is now set to receive the urgent medical care she needs, thanks to financial intervention by Parliamentary Representative Alfred Prospere and the Saint Lucian government.

The tragic night unfolded as the young girl, asleep on the floor of a Dennery home, was struck by four bullets that pierced the wooden walls. One of the bullets hit her face.

Her 19-year-old neighbour – who was the initial target –  was reportedly on the porch when an assailant opened fire from behind the galvanized fence. The shooter’s bullets tore through the home, wounding the teenager and the child, igniting outrage and calls for justice and support across the community.

Brittany Paul, the young girl’s mother, shared her family’s struggle with the financial burden of her daughter’s medical care on social media. Although surgery had initially been arranged, the assigned surgeon withdrew after negative comments on social media , leaving the family in urgent need of new assistance.

In response, Dennery South MP, Alfred Prospere announced that the government would fully cover the costs for the surgery, ensuring that the child would finally receive the care she desperately needs. “As soon as it happened, I got a call. I have been providing the level of support she needs,” Prospere said, addressing the incident. “As we speak, all arrangements have been made for the surgery to be done free of cost. Our government is a government that cares. I took on this responsibility to help change lives.”

Prospere confirmed that the government had already paid the fee initially charged by the Owen King EU Hospital (OKEU), and that the girl is now in “good hands” with a new doctor lined up to perform the surgery.

  1. All that “row-row” and “skundal” before government could step in? Ah da lady say she can only give me ten thousand dollars… from her purse?

  2. Months later and only after public pressure. Ridiculous! No such hesitation when it comes to expensive air ambulances for self proclaimed “My life is worth millions” politicians. Special place in hell for St Lucian politicians! All of Them!

  3. The government needs to go after the fool who shot the child in the first place. Let him and his family be responsible for full reimbursement – perhaps this will send a clear message to those who are trigger happy. Let them know that they will have to sell their every belonging to take care of the expenses of the victims.

  4. What is it with these giggling politicians?! “As soon as it happened, I got a call. I have been providing the level of support she needs.” MUHTEH! The mother was on TV requesting assistance shortly after the incident; where were you then? How did your “call” help her? Keep pissing in our eyes and calling it rain.
