  1. wow in town where the police mr garde yall need to step up in the middle of town ppl comfortable to shoot people cause the police don’t do foot patrol

  2. The brazenness of this act. The perpetrators believe that they can shoot in the heart of downtown, on a Monday and getaway with it. To add topping to the act, they fled through the city. How sweet!

The criminals clearly don’t place stock in police apprehension skills. This is just a reminder that we are underestimating the physical threat. Granting bail to gunslingers has always been a harebrained idea. If one can’t stop the flow of illegal weapons, why grant bail? In essence, one has two faucets flowing at the same time. I yearn for the days before our brain drain. Today, in our society, the sediment has risen to the top.

  3. As of November 18, 71 homicides for 2024. Projected homicides in 2024: 80. Projected homicide rate: 44.78 per 100,000 people. In 1994 the Homicide rate was 6.64 per 100,000 people. That’s a 6.88 times increase in 30 years. What a sad statistic.

  4. So this should be an easy crime to solve, what with all the CCTV cameras placed all over the city, the perpetrators would surely be captured by one or more of the cameras. The only foreseeable problem there is that the ‘human rights lawyers’ would not want any pictures or video be made public so as to protect the identity of the culprits, also, assuming they are apprehended, they would ensure that any accused be provided with tax-payer funded legal aid so that the accused would walk free and be free to shoot and kill again.

  5. @Statistician: I was checking the countries with the highest murder rates for 2023 and St Lucia was 5th on the list with 41.7 per 100,000 people! Not good. St Kitts & Nevis was top with 65 per 100,000 people. Jamaica was second with 60.9.

  6. They can be so brazen in Fredericks Wild West Castries with the Police headquarters just 600 meters away. A degraded cluttered ugly City just like the rep.
With the cruiseship season in full swing, were there any tourists in the vicinity. This could cause ships TO STAY AWAY FROM CASTRIES.
This is what you voted for Castries.

  7. This is really getting out of hand – do you know how many people could have gotten hurt or killed in crossfire in the middle of the square – something needs to be done ASAP – your entire economy will go down the drain. No one is safe anywhere in St. Lucia – WILD WILD HELEN OF THE WEST – very sad.

To all those who think getting these idiots jobs and creating initiatives will help them – THINK AGAIN. Their brains are already fried with nothingness and EVIL/WICKEDNESS is their modus operandi. Shame on the lawyers who represent such evil clients – sometimes you have to say no to MONEY as PEACE is a better trade off for self, family and country. From the look of things – no one is safe in St. Lucia.

  8. Well said Poule Foo.

I am short for words! While I do not believe in politicizing crime and blaming any government for being responsible for the indiscriminate slaying of others in violence, I think that any responsible government needs to address such a situation. “All that is needed for evil to flourish is for good people to do nothing” I won’t be easy on the Ministers, because they are being paid to do the job. We have three Ministers responsible for the Police/Security and managing crime. They are Mr Norbert, Mrs Virginia Albert-Poyotte and the Prime Minister himself. Are those people earning their keep, let alone their salaries.

When you have an employee who is not performing, be it, a maid, gardener, housekeeper or security officer, what do you do? Why are our citizens accepting shoddy representation and performance from our leaders from both political parties. Sadder than the crime situation in St Lucia, is the fact that one party ain’t worth the other. Same S—! Lord help us

I know Mr Pierre, our PM has taken a quiet approach, a strategy of silence in handling the situation, but this is totalllllyyyyy unacceptable. I almost forgot that Mr Pierre knows how to talk until I saw him in Dominica ringing a bell. I want him to expend this same enthusiasm and energy in addressing the nation on the state of crime and the plans to address it.

Interestingly, the additional tax levy imposed for Health and Security cannot be justified, as these two areas are in utter shambles. Never has our Medical and Crime situation been as dire in St. Lucia.

    Keep hope alive Lucians

  9. Guard what strategy u learn from the books and all the training u did to curb this crisis. The youth don’t seem to be scared any more.

  10. Happy to see that ex st lucians, those who left for a better life in Bronx Brooklyn London Miami etc are appalled at this situation like it never happens in their neighborhoods. Nonetheless, the same men and women who don’t wear seatbelts, who ride motorbikes recklessly, who shoplift, who disrespect everyone including their parents are the same ones who commit such brazen acts. It’s time to enforce ALLLLLLLLLLL LAWS! Stop hand picking which laws to enforce and not enforce. INCONVENIENCE US ALL…DAMNIT!

  11. This is scary. And not fair. it is our right to be safe in our country.. If politicans did not have financial interest in crime they would inact stringent laws against gun crime… possession of a unlicensd gun should carry a life sentence.period.

  12. And in the meantime SLU Times has just taken down an article where persons were giving practical advice and their views on how to curb the road madness in St. Lucia. Because the RSLPF seem to be clueless. Or are they? Crimes and criminality seems to be a business in St. Lucia. Well I have made it my business to protect myself and my family.

They can be so brazen in Fredericks Wild West Castries with the Police headquarters just 600 meters away. A degraded cluttered ugly City just like the rep.

Don’t forget, the people of Castries Central thought elected the individual to represent them. The leaders of the SLP also elected to give him more power by making him a Minister. With all the rumblings around this character, not sure what transaction was made there but if you make a deal with the devil you will pay. People get the leaders they deserve. This should be a call to the decent people of this country. Don’t let the votes of those who promote disorder and lawlessness to override the rest of the law abiding majority.

  14. @ George

“It’s time to enforce ALLLLLLLLLLL LAWS! Stop hand picking which laws to enforce and not enforce. INCONVENIENCE US ALL…DAMNIT!”

    Indeed.

  15. It’s simple. These criminals know them police can’t run. Run and they risk getting a heart attack or something…..

  16. smh. Btw am not surprised at all. We hv allowed criminals to be running our country. Look they building a very expensive bldg for themselves in the ctr of the city. Health and Safety Levy.

  17. You so right some of these policemen are so out of shape it’s ridiculous, all they do drink bounty rum of course the criminals will over run them what a mess

  18. @ Kamizol, one of the problems with homocide rate per 100,000 is that countries like St. Kitts & Nevis with populations less than 100,000 is done through extrapolation which may or may not be correct. So, we don’t have a true reflection of the homocide rate in the twin islands of St. Kitts & Nevis. But for us in St. Lucia we will soon be the murder capital of the world.

  19. What he hell does this has to do with politics?? Wait until after concessions you will see what this has to do with politics……just now RiGHT ANON and ST LUCIANS SCATTERED ABROAD. The police was near by, there are always police around there on foot plus city police WE ALL KNOW THAT, but when they got on the scene everyone scattering running in traffic and all over so them fellas just blend in and move with the pandemonium so they were hard to detect. I will agree given the time of day and location this was quite brazen

  20. They will be caught on camera from the various businesses in the city. So many jobs are available in the private sector and the hotels but those cockroaches refuse to go and work with the Christmas season and tourism industry . Mr Guard need to beef up daily patrols and cctv cameras in the city

  21. Well I guess there goes the idea of a 10pm to 6am curfew for the youth. That will be pointless since they can commit the same crime in broad daylight.

  22. Someone doesn’t understand how government works. They are badly in need of a class in civics. Here is brief civics information:
Citizens of a country, once during a prescribed period, elect representatives by voting. Those representatives (managers) are PAID to manage the affairs of the people. The representatives are responsible for protecting, seeing about the welfare of the people and undertaking works required for the betterment of the citizens. Those representatives are EMPLOYED by the people. They can be fired by the citizens by not giving them a majority of ballots. The agreement- citizens are willing to be taxed, in return the representative use their tax money in the most efficient method. The representatives band together to form a government, which is more efficient than each one working independently. Citizens are free to peacefully protest the quality of their representation.

Nowhere in there, it states that the representative is a God. Nowhere in there it states discussions about crime is taboo. Next time you hear someone say don’t politicize crime, you may be wiser. Next time you hear somebody try to disassociate a representative from his responsibility, you may be wiser.

  23. When some of your citizens have decided to be gun slingers bent on harming, drugging, stealing, destroying, murdering 24/7 and the laws on the books in St. Lucia grant them bail.

Then on the other hand the attorneys who are money hungry continue to represent them – what do you expect????? I believe that your laws need to be changed in order to deal with this out of control situation. These fools need to be dealt with once and for all. In addition, those family members and friends aka sweetweeeze please know that blood is also on your hands and you will suffer tremendously. “The LOVE of money (ill gotten gains) $$$$$$$ is the root of all evil.

  24. @Ras Biko: my murder rate figure for St Kitts / Nevis (SKN) is accurate. it is quite simple to calculate: just divide the murders for the year by the population. You then get a tiny decimal figure so would need to multiply it by 100,000 to get it over zero. So SKN had a population of 47,755 in 2023 and there were 31 murders recorded in that year, so when 31 is divided by 47,755 and multiplied by 100,000 you get the rate which is 64.9. The same formula is used for every country.

  25. Yo Neighborhoods know that red bike there, ….speak up people check it people saw that red bike rolling outta deh ScHitty……check out country man on YouTube…Jamaica first country first link him an or dial555 right now!!! This is ridiculous, majority of businesses have security at their entrances by the old “ Rain “ restaurant ect and no one saw a thing? SMH This is part of the problem complacency to step it up and speak up to the rightful authorities no matter what the situations….. smmfh

  26. @ George we are appalled and rightly so —-“Happy to see that ex st lucians, those who left for a better life in Bronx Brooklyn London Miami etc are appalled at this situation like it never happens in their neighborhoods”

Please understand that there is absolutely no COMPARISON to the current events in St. Lucia and the USA/London. You all are only 238 square miles —!!!! BTW we are not ex St. Lucians not sure where that came from.

  27. @ Anonymous,
I am not disputing the mathematical interpretation/result of St. Kitts homicide rate. What is in contention is that you cannot apply the same metrics to countries with population less than 100,000. The results will not be a true reflection of what the real homicide will be. It will be only an exprapolation. The math you are disclosing is an extrapolation and not a true picture of the homicide rate in St. Kitts. This is not difficult to understand. To get a true homicide rate for St. Kitts it would have to be per 10,000 which would be 6.49 while St Lucia stands at 4.07.
