The Dennery Minibus Drivers Association recently introduced a new system for Route 2C, which connects passengers traveling between Dennery and Castries.
Effective November 11, 2024, the system features designated bus stops in both areas, aiming to provide a more reliable and consistent service.
Association President Curtis Mathurin provided an update on the system’s early days, acknowledging both successes and areas in need of improvement.
“Right now, everything is generally going fine but some issues need to be fixed,” Mathurin shared with St. Lucia Times. He added that the association plans to address these challenges soon: “Sometime this week we are going to have a meeting to organise loopholes. Some drivers are not cooperating, but hopefully we will be able to rectify all of these issues and hopefully by the following week to get everything in place.”
One of the primary challenges has been the “first come, first served” policy, which requires drivers to take turns collecting passengers.
Mathurin explained, “Some bus drivers are not waiting their turn when the first bus driver is there to get his load of customers.” To ensure fairness and efficiency, the association intends to introduce penalties for those who violate the established rules.
Despite these issues, Mathurin did emphasise that adjustments have already been made to enhance customer convenience. “We did an adjustment for an evening session allowing customers to not stay on the bus stop for too long,” he noted, adding, “They are happy for that.”
