Gunfire On Chaussee Road: Police Arrest Shooter, Victim Hospitalised

Pedestrians near the New Village entrance on Chaussee Road, Castries, were shocked Friday evening by the sound of gunfire.

Eyewitnesses told St. Lucia Times that around 5:30 p.m., a lone gunman opened fire on another man, injuring him. The assailant attempted to flee toward the Anglican Primary School but was intercepted by a police officer.

“A police officer driving in a vehicle jumped out and started shooting after the gunman,” one eyewitness recounted.

The fleeing suspect was eventually apprehended by police, while the gunshot victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Friday’s shooting is the second such incident in Castries this month, sparking renewed concern over escalating crime. Earlier this month, gunmen opened fire on two men near Derek Walcott Square in broad daylight, leaving one injured and the other dead.

Road users and residents have called for urgent action to address the rising violence, emphasizing the need for greater security and preventative measures.

Investigations into the latest incident are ongoing.

  1. A friend said he fears driving on the Chaussee for this very reason.
We have thousands of tourists visiting Castries over the next six .months and some of them go walking about the city.
What happens if one of them get shot?
There goes thousands of tourism related jobs. There goes the country down the drain.
And you have incompetent inept useless people in Cabinet just looking after their own pockets!
    Lawd lend a hand !

  2. what they need to investigate again. you have the shooter police should decapitate both arms on the scene he was resisting arrest so his arms had to be removed end of story

  3. Good job police on this incident but they need to be much more active. The saying “when the cat isn’t around, the mice will play” holds true when we analyse our country’s situation in terms of safety from criminal activity. It is because of the reluctance to act in a robust way to apprehend crime (in most cases), is the reason why the criminal elements no longer stay confined to the shadows and step boldly into the light to carry on their nasty activities. This won’t stop until drastic action is taken. I say bring back operation restore confidence and capital punishment. Otherwise this situation cannot be controlled.

  4. There are so many vacancies in the private and hotel sector yet still those cockroaches refuse to go and work but prefer to live a life of crime. The government even enact a wage rate at 6:52 an hour . I am appealing to the young men to throw their firearms in the Castries harbour and get a job , buy a piece of land build a nice plywood house get married and start a family ….

  5. The biggest useless comment I have ever seen…@anon..the government is doing what ever it takes to stop those criminal activities buh u can talk s***.la palay ka ka. U must be a flambo….

  6. A bunch of ti (useless) neg start hanging out in an area. Bad things are sure to follow. Don’t know why anyone is shocked this happened in that location. I avoid the Chaussee, Jeremie Street, Victoria Street JnBaptiste Street for these very reasons. I surprised we don’t see more drive by shootings.

  7. @Anon… Tourist? Is that all you care about? Did you miss the part where he run towards the school? You’ll are so brainwashed in this country you’ll are starting to sound like the politicians. The tourists are not new to crime cause it is a global problem and their lives are definitely not more valuable than that of our citizens. We need to find ways to curb this crime serge for our people and the tourists will benefit from a better St. Lucia. Not the other way around

  8. Sounds like a need for increased police presence in that local . More stop and search as the perpetrators with their weapon are driving from one area to another.

  9. Get rid of them cockroaches it’s only fast money that they are after lazy bums who still live at their mothers home

  10. The government has failed in its social contract with the people. Having been given the mandate to keep us safe and provide proper health care they have FAILED.

The comments are so funny as the Red sheeple tries to tone down their own shock at what is going g on, all the while flambeau’s marching.

As a PIP I am not impressed. As the government did not really have a plan and apparently still don’t.

  11. I am not sure if those who are promoting tourism understand what this dire uncontrolled criminal situation could do to your economy ???????…..Godspeed

  12. Wow, OMG i often pass there with my 2 yr old. SMH. If i criticise the AUTHORITIES a SLP hack will say i is a flambeau. So with this kind of brazen daylight shooting in public places tell me who else has the authority to put a stop to it? Me as a parent? I am paying a 2.5% for SECIRUTY. If the govt feel security is not their responsibility Y collect a special tax for it? Y hv a Security Minister? But the blinded hacks believe one should not demand or ask the govt ministers to Do Something. 3 yrs they gvn vehicles it has not worked, they still gvn vehicles. SMBH

  13. Those saying the shooter should have been shot … Realize that had that actually happened … The police officer would be taken to task by Mary Francis and the DPP.

Seems like criminals have more rights than the police. The ones committing these crimes appear to be empowered and protected while the police force has been made to look demotivated and powerless.

We want the police to act and stop this surge but when they do we cry for the criminals. Make that make sense ?
