Sagicor Donates to Breast Cancer Fight in Saint Lucia

A local organisation that supports cancer awareness has received a portion of the funds raised by Sagicor during its annual Southern Caribbean Pinktober Campaign in October.

Faces of Cancer Saint Lucia, which alongside the Saint Lucia Cancer Society supports cancer education, funding, and advocacy on the island, was one of five entities to receive financial assistance. Sagicor stated that the organisation’s work is crucial in providing resources to those affected by cancer.

Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death for women worldwide, and the Caribbean region has a higher mortality rate compared to North America and Europe. Recognising the severity of the situation, Sagicor committed to making a difference through its fundraising efforts.

The other recipients of Sagicor’s support include Vitas House Hospice in Trinidad and Tobago, which provides compassionate end-of-life care for individuals with cancer; Breast Friends in Antigua and Barbuda, which supports women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of the diagnosis; Stichting BOB in Aruba, which works to ensure more individuals can access life-saving screenings and timely care; and Cancer Support Services in Barbados, which provides a safe space for cancer patients and their families.

Robert Trestrail, Group President and Chief Executive Officer for Sagicor Life Inc said the six “remarkable” organisations are at the forefront of providing vital support, education, and care.

“And we are honoured to contribute to their efforts in the fight against breast cancer,” he said.

Trestrail said Sagicor was proud to continue its unwavering support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October, as it aligns with the company’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves.

As a leading insurance and financial solutions provider, Sagicor said it understands the profound impact of illness on individuals and families.

“The company remains deeply committed to supporting causes that enhance the well-being of the communities in which it operates. Through its ongoing efforts, Sagicor is proud to continue making a tangible difference in the fight against breast cancer and to improve the lives of those affected by this disease,” it said in a statement announcing the donations.
