Mas Dominik, dubbed ‘The Real Mas’, is gearing up for a spectacular return in 2025.
Marketing Executive for the Caribbean at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Markerah George on Wednesday provided a preview of the events leading up to the main celebration in Dominica in March.
During a press conference at the Coco Palm Resort in Rodney Bay, she said the festival promises unforgettable experiences for first-time visitors and seasoned Carnival goers, at the 40 events in the impressive lineup.
Among the highlights are elegant and glamorous events like the crowning of Miss Dominica on February 27, followed by the grand opening event, Sunrise, on February 28, which will showcase the talents of artists from Dominica like ‘Bouyon Boss’ Asa Banton, Triple K International, Reo, Quan, Littleboy and Trilla G, Lil Natty & Thunda from Grenada, and Antigua’s beloved Claudette Peters. Saint Lucia’s own Shemmy J will also be featured.
Communications and Public Relations Specialist for the DDA, Monelle Alexis described Mas Dominik as more than a carnival.
“If you have a dream of a carnival that is authentic, safe, all-inclusive and affordable, then Dominica is calling you,” she said, adding that it is a “celebration of homecoming” and a tribute to the island’s heritage.
Stressing that the festivities were deeply rooted in the authenticity and spirit of Dominica, Alexis invited visitors to “let the rhythm take you” as she described a scene in which the island was transformed by the intoxicating sounds of Bouyon and Calypso, accompanied by costumes, paint, and powder.
The excitement reaches a peak during the Street Jump-Ups, where the streets of Dominica turn into one giant dance floor. Bouyon bands and live DJs fill the air with rhythm for revellers of all ages.
For those travelling from overseas, Mas Dominik offers a range of travel options, via plane and ferry.
Travellers are encouraged to visit the DDA’s official website, www.dominicafestivals.com for more information, or call or WhatsApp (767) 275 7298/275 7293.
