Lee John is the third Saint Lucian called up to the Windward Islands Volcanoes for the 2025 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Championship. John made his senior regional debut as the Lavamen started their match against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on Wednesday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
A 19-year-old all-rounder from Gros Islet, John is an off-spinner who was a member of the first cohort at the Saint Lucia High Performance Centre.
An alumnus of Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School, he draws inspiration from Sunil Narine, a driving force behind his passion for the sport. He played for the Windward Islands in last year’s Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 2-Day and 50-Over Championship.
John joins fellow Saint Lucians Shadrack Descarte and Johnnel Eugene in the squad led by Sunil Ambris. For their second-round fixture, a day-night encounter, the Volcanoes also welcomed Kavem Hodge back into the lineup. Hodge was a member of the West Indies squad that last week won the first Test match in Pakistan since 1990.
The Windwards and Trinidad and Tobago had very different fortunes in their first-round games. The Red Force beat Combined Campuses and Colleges at home by an innings and 75 runs. The Volcanoes, second last year, lost to the Jamaica Scorpions by 178 runs at Arnos Vale.
The four-day tilt starts at 1 p.m. each day.
