RSLPF Officers Complete Intensive Training to Sharpen Tactical Skills

A new group of specially trained Royal Saint Lucia Police Force officers is set to bolster the island’s law enforcement capabilities following their successful completion of a Special Tactical Intervention Training Course. The first cohort of officers graduated on Friday after an intensive five-day programme at the Police Force Academy that was aimed at sharpening their tactical skills, decision-making, teamwork, and overall confidence.

During the closing ceremony, the academy’s chief instructor, Sergeant Alyshus Joseph, commended the participants for their dedication and hard work throughout the rigorous training.

Chief Instructor at the Police Force Academy Sergeant Alyshus Joseph.

“It is a moment of great pride and accomplishment as we gather here today to reflect on the hard work, dedication, and growth each of you has demonstrated throughout this intense training,” he said.

“Throughout this course, you have pushed boundaries, sharpened skills, and built the very foundations of tactical proficiency and decision-making under pressure. What you have accomplished here is more than just technical expertise; you have forged lasting bonds, shared invaluable experiences, and together, you have strengthened our collective resolve.”

The instructor urged officers to apply their newly acquired skills in their daily operations. “You are now equipped with advanced skills that will allow you to respond to real-world challenges with confidence and precision,” he said.

The course covered weapon training, use of force, room clearing, vehicle checkpoints, and stop and search procedures, among other key areas. Held from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily, the training was designed to prepare officers to operate effectively in high-pressure situations.

Sergeant Joseph praised the instructors, mentors, and staff whose commitment made the programme a success. He also extended special thanks to Deputy Commissioner of Police Wayne Charlery, who spearheaded the initiative.
