UWP Selects Castries North Candidate, More Contenders Coming Soon

The United Workers Party (UWP) has confirmed that a candidate has been selected to contest the Castries North seat in the next general elections.

The announcement came during the party’s first Sunday Live event for 2025, held at UWP headquarters. While the candidate’s name was not disclosed, the opposition party assured supporters that an official announcement would be made soon.

Chairman of the UWP’s Castries North constituency branch, Lionel Ellis also confirmed that more candidate selections for other constituencies will follow in the coming weeks.

“We are on the move, and we will be seeking to pull back all the UWP votes,” he said.

Elections are due by July next year, and while Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre late last year dismissed calls for an early poll, both the opposition UWP and the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party have been oiling their election machinery.

Meanwhile, Joshua Harrow, a youth member and the featured speaker, strongly advocated for youth empowerment and national progress, stressing the importance of investing in the next generation.

Featured speaker at the UWP’s first Sunday Live session for the year, Joshua Harrow.

He urged the nation to recognise the value of young minds, asking, “Is it merely a body to be thrown into the workforce without preparation… or is it the very heartbeat of our nation, the foundation upon which our leaders stand?”

Harrow also reminded attendees that some of history’s greatest leaders and changemakers made their mark at a young age.

“There are those who have risen from humble beginnings to change the course of history. There are those who, with little but their vision and determination, have transformed nations and inspired generations,” he said, calling for young people to take an active role in shaping the country’s future.

“Do not let anyone tell you your voice does not matter. We must demand better. We must create a future where every child, every teenager, every young adult can look ahead with hope and not despair,” Harrow said in an appeal to the youth.

He closed with a call to action, encouraging unity, determination, and belief in the power of real change through active participation.

Politics, the deadly game of politics once more. These candidates look so eager to contest the election is is far away for now. They don’t look like winners to me. Flambeau needs to stop recycling these has-beens as potential candidates. The party needs fresh and young blood if they are going to become a force to be reckoned with.

  2. I’m a supporter of the UWP but honestly they are not ready yet. Imagine they have selected a candidate for Castries North and his/her name has not yet been disclosed? If that’s the case don’t come out say anything. That’s why SLP is more organized than us. We are not ready yet. Choops

  3. There are two things I want to comment on:
    1. I want to hear the policies the UWP will implement if they were to win the next election. Labour is is paying 2 CXC subjects for the form 5s students are they going to increase it or decrease it? What will they do to better the health system, don’t just say we will better the health system outline how it will be done. Will the minimum wage be increase to $12.00 per hour as recommended by one politician? Please outline the policies.
    2. Most people have looked at Guy Dominic and Herod as rejected politicians and have no new idea. Will they continue to be in the fold?

  4. While we must never underestimate God’s leadership in the lives of spiritually ambitious youth/people we must always pay heed to the individual’s track record .Most politicians …..to the left or to the right are eager to serve their pockets and not the agenda of the citizens of this country .

  5. Election is certainly heating up. One Lisa in South-East Castries is creating a hell of a problem for one Joachim. The party is saying nothing. Is that nothing mean something. Imagine at a bar, supporters of the same party want to fight because the lady showed up with her crew criticizing her colleague.

  6. The biggest reject is the Leader of Opposition.
Why is he still Leader when he lost 9 of his 11 to 6 majority.
The stick that beats the black dog is the same to beat white one.
King was kicked after he did better than my current party Leader, couple elections ago.

  7. @anonymous you indicated that the biggest reject is the Leader of the Opposition but the worst PM in St Lucia’ s history is the current PM.At least the Leader of the Opposition did better than him by far. Mem baton ke bat chein blanche qui ousi bat chein noir.Tan tou tan tou
