Sweet Victory for Guava in Montessori Sports

Skai Sammy and Khairi Elibox played starring roles in helping Guava win with 333 at the Montessori Centre and Wee Wisdom International Montessori School sports meet last Friday at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Guava held off a hard-charging Mango, who amassed 316. Sugar Apple with 241 and Soursop, 236, took up the third and fourth spots, respectively.

Sammy, who has represented Saint Lucia in tennis, got three individual gold medals in track events. She won the 11-plus 80m in 10.3 seconds, the 150m in 22.6, and the 200m in 32.1, narrowly beating Mango’s Sapphire Parks (32.4) for first place.

Parks, a silver medallist at the Inter-District Primary School Championships last year, won the 600m in 2:06.5, whilst Sammy’s run of 2:22.9 got her second place. Parks’ Mango team held off Sammy’s Guava, 52.5 to 59.8 in the girls’ 4x100m. Skai also added first place in the needle and thread race.

Elibox, a national swimmer, won the 11-plus 80m in 11.1 seconds, and the 150m in 22.2, but lost to Miles Andrew of Mango in the 200m. Andrew came in at 31.6 and Elibox 31.9 for a very close race. Elibox also added a win in the  600m, crossing at 2:07.5 for gold. In the 4x100m, Elibox and Guava ran 1:05.4 for the win over Andrew and Mango. Elibox added victories in the lime and spoon, needle and thread, and (with Daniel Sherman) the three-legged race.

In the Under-11 girls, Emerald Alfred of Sugar Apple copped gold medals in the 80m (12.4 seconds) and 100m (16.8 seconds). Meghan Barthdomeo won the 150m in 25.2 seconds. Alfred added wins in lime and spoon and needle and thread, whilst Ava-Marie John and Krissange Thompson combined for victory in the three-legged race.

Among the boys, Zy Hilton was a double champion. He won the 80m in 12.0 and followed that up with a 15.7-second run in the 100m. Raul Delgado took the 150m in 24.6, and Miles Andrew helped Mango to the 4x75m win in 36 seconds. Josiah Monrose of Mango won the needle and thread, Luke McNamara the lime and spoon, and the three-legged race went to the team of Daniel Duboulay and Alexander Cox.

Zayd Robinson, at 9.4 seconds, was the Under-9 boys’ 60m winner. Aliviea Delauney ran 11.9 for victory among the girls. Keyanno Elibox ran 12.0 for the 80m boys, and Allie McFarlane 14.7 for the girls. Leon Nunez pipped Elibox for the Under-9 100m win, 16.3 to 16.9 in the boys. Allie McFarlane clocked 29.0 to top the girls. Xzavier Sammy was the Under-9 boys’ needle and thread winner, whilst Aerin Richelieu won for the girls.

In the 4x75m relays Under-9, Sugar Apple’s boys ran 42.0, whilst Ava-Marie John and Krissange Thompson combined to give Mango the 40.0-second win.
