So far for the 2025 season, Julien Alfred has run just twice, both in events with which she has little familiarity. Both times, she’s set national records, most recently on Friday in the women’s 400m indoors at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina.
Alfred, 23, seemed to be running much more conservatively than she did two weeks ago in breaking the 300m national record. Even so, she stopped the clock at 52.97 seconds to eclipse the 25-year-old mark of 53.82, set by Verneta Lesporis.
A PUMA athlete, the Ciceron native faced the starter’s pistol after two of the four other athletes in her heat withdrew. She came through the 200m mark comfortably ahead at 25.01 seconds, with Ramiah Elliott from the University of Texas, at 25.25.
The Olympic 100m champion and 200m silver medallist has been challenged by coach Edrick Floreal to run longer events this season to help build her speed endurance in preparation for the outdoor season.
