From LA to the Caribbean: Celebrity Chef Ameera Finds Peace in Saint Lucia

Celebrity chef and holistic wellness practitioner Ameera Muhammad has found a new home in Saint Lucia, bringing her culinary expertise and passion for holistic healing to the island.

The Los Angeles-based chef, known for working with some of the biggest names in entertainment, has been visiting Saint Lucia since 2019. However, a transformative journey led her to officially call the island home in August 2024.

“I fell in love with the island…. The people were so friendly, and the island was so healing,” Chef Ameera shared in an interview with St Lucia Times as she prepared her twist on Saint Lucia’s national dish, green figs and saltfish.

Since making the island her permanent residence, she has embraced its culture, beauty, and slower pace of life.

“Sundays feel like a Sunday here…. People take time to slow down. It’s not a go, go, go, go,” she said, contrasting it with the fast-paced lifestyle of Los Angeles.

Now fully settled in Saint Lucia, Chef Ameera is eager to celebrate her first Independence Day on the island.

“I’m really, really excited… I feel the independence energy… I’m celebrating too,” she said enthusiastically.

For Chef Ameera, Saint Lucia is more than just a residence—it’s a place where she has found peace, purpose, and an opportunity to share her gifts with others.

“Saint Lucia chose me before I chose Saint Lucia,” she said with gratitude.

Born with what she describes as a natural gift for cooking, Chef Ameera began honing her skills at just eight years old. By the age of nine, she was already making egg rolls, showcasing her culinary talents early on.

Her career took an unexpected turn when she was fired from her job in the entertainment industry, a moment she sees as a blessing in disguise: “That was the universe’s way of saying, ‘we need you to do something else.”

That “something else” turned out to be a thriving culinary career, which eventually led her to cook for A-list celebrities such as Rihanna, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, and Lil Wayne.

“I’ve cooked for a lot of celebrities,” she said, emphasising that her work was not just about preparing meals but about providing value to her high-profile clients.

Looking ahead, Chef Ameera has big plans for Saint Lucia. She is curating a series of custom events and collaborating with rising local culinary stars. Additionally, she is bringing her renowned ‘Elevate Your Vibration’ retreats, which she has hosted since 2021, to the island.

Her passion for healthy, flavourful food and holistic wellness is at the heart of her mission in Saint Lucia.

“I’m in the process of creating one or two-day local retreats so that the locals can experience what it is I do,” she explained. “It’s going to be extremely flavourful, fresh, and healing for the body.”

These retreats will focus on bringing balance, particularly for women who have been working tirelessly in corporate settings and may need to reconnect with their feminine energy.

With spots for her upcoming retreats filling quickly, Chef Ameera encourages those interested to reach out soon.

Chef Ameera invites food and wellness enthusiasts to follow her journey.
