The 2025 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Schools’ Under-19 50-Over Boys’ Cricket Tournament continued on Wednesday, with a big win for Ciceron Secondary School (CSS) and a close one for Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS). Matches were played at the Gros Islet Playing Field and Piaye Playing Field, respectively.
Ciceron got their second win in as many games when they defeated Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) by 162 runs. The comprehensive win kept Ciceron on pace with Patricia D James Secondary School (PDJSS) atop Group C.
Batting first in a game reduced to 32 overs per side, and led once again by Sherlawn Daniel, Ciceron got to 249-3. Daniel was unbeaten on 95, after making 47 in his team’s first game. The 16-year-old Castries lad hit 14 boundaries. Uriyah Charlemagne added 31, and Omari Joseph 27 not out to help Ciceron to a strong total.
Daniel Lorde, Kalum Thomas, and Keon Morgan took one wicket each.
CCSS might have counted themselves lucky to make as much as 87 all out in 13 overs. Ciceron players and coaches alike lamented wasteful bowling and a number of dropped catches. Lorde, a centurion on Monday, made just seven. KalumThomas and Tristan Isidore top-scored with 20.
Dervel Gustave was the main bowler for Ciceron, claiming 4-17 in three overs. Leoneil Davis took 3-35 in four overs, and Naheim David 2-2 in two.
SCSS beat Piaye TVET by three wickets. Piaye TVET made 65 all out in 16 overs. Christopher Montoute had 20. Kumar Lafeuille took 4-8, Curdin Jones 2-9, and Samuel Alexander 2-15. SCSS made 66-7 in 23.4 overs. Curdin Jones had 22. Omar Dawnes took 4-23, Nyus Jn Baptiste 2-9.
On Tuesday, Corinth Secondary (CSS) beat St Mary’s College (SMC) by three wickets, the first win in three tries for three Corinthians. SMC were 148 all out in 24.4 overs, Jean Claude Emmanuel 54, Armani Lesmond 4-36, and Neil Poyotte 3-30.
CSS responded with 151-7 in 24 overs, Rashidi Smith and Messi Gerson hitting 30 each, Jasha St Louis with 20 and skipper Neil Poyotte with 19 not out.
On Thursday, Ciceron will face St Mary’s College in a bid to maintain their perfect record and go to the top of the group.
