Hazell Shines at BIG EAST Swim Championships

The Seton Hall University women’s swimming and diving team are into the final night of competition at the 2025 BIG EAST Championships, being hosted by Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, USA.

One of the standouts for the Pirates has been Saint Lucia’s Naima Hazell, who set a school record and helped set a relay record on the second day of the meet.

A first-year sophomore at The Hall, the 19-year-old Hazell completed the 50-yard freestyle in 23.07 seconds, breaking teammate Lea Moeller’s school record in the event. Moeller covered that distance in 23.11 back in 2023 to set the previous school record.

In finals as the fourth seed, Hazell was unable to lower the mark even further, but she retained her fourth-place finish in the event to contribute invaluable points. Natalie Heim and Moeller raced in the B-final, with the latter coming out on top by a quarter-second.

A graduate of The International School, Hazell combined with Moeller, Amelia Obszarny and Heim for the 200 freestyle relay. While the Pirates were behind early, they clawed their way back into the race to finish with a time of 1:32.60 in fourth place. Despite that fourth-place finish, this quartet earned themselves a spot on the Seton Hall record wall. The Pirates quartet broke the school record by 0.06 seconds, thus cementing themselves in school history.

Hazell also produced a season-best swim of 1:05.34 in the 100 breaststroke on Wednesday night. Heading into the fourth and final day of competition, the Pirates find themselves in fifth place with 576 points overall.
