SALCC On Course for Repeat Volleyball Double

There is one change from last year’s finals clashes in the 2025 Under-19 Schools’ Volleyball Tournament, following Monday’s semifinals at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex. But double defending champions Sir Arthur Lewis Community College continue cruising after the penultimate stage of the competition, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.

The first semifinal in the girls’ competition saw St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) beating Micoud Secondary School in straight sets, 2-0 (25-19, 25-13). The second semifinal featured 2024 winners Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) beating Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School 2-0 (25-20, 25-8) to set up a rematch of last year’s finale. It may be a difficult outing for SJC, however, as they will have their school track meet on Tuesday before meeting SALCC on Wednesday.

Among the boys, the title holders SALCC maintained their winning streak by overcoming Castries Comprehensive Secondary School in straight sets, 2-0 (25-16, 25-16). But in the second semifinal, Micoud Secondary School battled past losing 2024 finalists St Mary’s College, winning 2-1. Micoud took the first set 25-21, SMC levelled the scoreline 1-1 with a 25-19 triumph. In the tie breaker, Micoud won 15-6. It’s their first Under-19 boys final in over a decade.

Micoud and SJC will be scheming to overcome the boys and girls from the top of Morne Fortune, but it will be a difficult hill to climb indeed. The tournament climaxes on Wednesday from 10 a.m. with the third-place playoff, followed by the finals in both divisions.
