The lads of the Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School (LHCSS) and Choiseul Secondary School earned victories this week as the 2025 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Schools’ Under-19 50-Over Boys’ Cricket Tournament wrapped up its round-robin phase. Both teams have confirmed their spots in the quarterfinals.
Hess beat Stanley Jon Odlum TVET by 164 runs on Thursday and Babonneau Secondary by 206 runs on Wednesday, both games at the Gros Islet Playing Field. Against Babonneau, the 2023 champions made 284 runs in 26.2 overs, in a game reduced to 35 overs per side. Aaron St Clair hit 95, inclusive of 16 fours and six sixes. Aiden Scholar made 53, with 10 fours and three sixes. Armani Florius captured 3-53 for Babonneau, and Samuel Vitalis 3-57.
In reply, Babonneau Secondary was dismissed for 78 in 11.1 overs with Samuel Vitalis making 28. Bjorn Fanis took 3-29, Kaleb Charles 3-34, and Aiden Scholar 2-4.
Thursday’s game was reduced to 30 overs a side. Hess made 201 all out in 24.3 overs. Cypriani Norville top scored with 44, Bjorn Fanis added 35 not out. Kenedy St. Clair got 5-43 and Gillan Lionel 4-47 for Stanley Jon Odlum.
But the chase never got going, as Aiden Scholar cut a swathe through the men from Marigot with his left-arm chinaman. The 15-year-old took 8-15 in 4.5 overs, with Bjorn Fanis adding 2-15 in five overs, to rout the opposition for 37 in 9.5 overs.
Choiseul, meanwhile, swept Group A after beating Piaye TVET by six wickets at the Piaye Playing Field. Piaye TVET made 121 all out in 20 overs, Shaquan Mitchel 48 and Nicus Peterson 25. Jeanille Williams took 5-35, Xavi Agdomar and Samuel Jean two wickets each.
Germian Thomas made 43 for Choiseul as they reached their target in 15.2 overs and for the loss of four wickets. Xavi Agdomar added 24 and Jeanille Williams 16.
In the quarterfinals, Choiseul will meet the second-placed team in Group B. LHCSS will play the winner of Group C, Ciceron Secondary School.
