Norbert Proposes Free Transport for Elderly in Micoud North

United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for Micoud North, Elisha Norbert, has proposed an initiative to provide senior citizens in the constituency with free transportation to healthcare centres.

Speaking at a UWP meeting in Micoud South on Sunday, Norbert shared his vision for a council-operated ride service to assist elderly residents.

“Just imagine an Uber service that can take you to the health centre. You make a call, somebody from the council answers, you say, ‘I need to book a ride for my mother, for my grandmother, to the health centre.’ The car pulls up to your house, takes your grandmother there, and brings her back home,” Norbert told supporters.

Beyond transportation, Norbert outlined a broader vision for Micoud North, emphasising the importance of love in leadership.

“When I was endorsed, I preached love because that is where it begins. That is the only way we can cherish the land that we have. That is the only way we can invest in our people freely, wholeheartedly,” he said.

Norbert stressed the need to put people first, adding, “The secret to our success is to invest in the resources that we have—our land, our people, and the light of our people, and the light that God has blessed us with.”

He also spoke about strengthening ties between Micoud North and South, revealing plans to collaborate with UWP leader and Micoud South MP, Allen Chastanet, to improve the movement of people, goods, and services between the two constituencies.

Norbert encouraged UWP supporters to embrace unity and compassion, stating, “Let us love one another. That’s how we are going to serve one another, and that is how we are going to save this beautiful country of ours.”

  1. You make sense but I promise your ideas are irrelevant to allen’s agenda. So you can speak it but Allen has the last action you keep the word.

  2. Norbert, you will not be able to work with Chastanet because you are preaching love and unity but Chastanet is asking the nation to declare war. This is a great comparison between the two of you.
Now Mr. Norbert, we St. Lucians want to hear the new policies uwp has if they were to win the next election.

  3. While your proposal is a great idea, perhaps it would be better to propose house calls/home visits for the elderly on a designated day of the week especially for those who are bed-ridden.

This would be much better than having to pick up the elderly for an appointment and wait for an eternity to return them home.
BTW – I am neither UWP nor SLP – just saying.

  4. Norbert, this is a great idea and hope to God get the opportunity to implement such service not only to your constituency but across the country. Too many times we forget those who laid the ground work for us to exist today. Thanks for this idea – The Lucian massive should listen and help you initiate the idea. At this point, the only way to get it started is to vote you in power.

  5. It’s not a bad idea, however for u to implement this u have to win ur seat and UWP wins the election but I don’t think that will happen. Under Chastanet UWP will never ever win an election again. I’m a UWP from birth but will never ever vote for UWP as long as chastanet is political leader. We just don’t want him. After this election his political career will be buried.

  6. A noble idea though the first question is how would it be paid for such an iniatve would have merit nationally .. There is a reason why there are not free school buses ,something to do with the IMF.
Some Emperor’s clothes I think Labour should explore free transport for the elderly….
