Xpressionz Carnival Band Unveils 2025 Theme Celebrating Tradition, Creativity, Climate Action

Xpressionz Carnival Band set a tone for the Carnival season with the reveal of its captivating theme, FOLKLORE, L’espwi Di Eksitasion (The Spirit of Excitement), at a press preview event. The theme honours Saint Lucia’s cultural heritage, artistic innovation, and environmental stewardship.

Held at the National Cultural Centre, the presentation showcased eight meticulously crafted sections inspired by folklore: Masquerade Dancers, Acrobat, Kabwit, Spirit of Masquerade, Ti Djabs, Chouval Bwa, Pay Banan and Spirit of the Forest. Each segment brings Saint Lucian traditions to life through vibrant costumes, dynamic movement, and storytelling.

Xpressionz Marketing Director Francine Mason set the tone for a season rooted in purpose. “Tonight we celebrate more than just… carnival. We celebrate tradition, creativity, sustainability and the unwavering spirit of Saint Lucia,” she said.

The band, a collective of diverse creatives united by their passion for Carnival, aims to preserve tradition while embracing evolution.

“Our mission is simple, yet profound, to keep the traditional mass alive by embracing the evolution of… Carnival,” Mason explained.

This year, Xpressionz also champions climate action. “Sustainability… is a commitment to reducing waste, to meeting our environmental obligations and ensuring that our revellers and audience alike share in the ownership and protection of our natural resources,” she said.

The launch also spotlighted local talent, with Mason highlighting collaborations with Saint Lucian designers at home and abroad.

From workshops to the parade, Xpressionz invites everyone to join the celebration. “Carnival is for everyone,” Mason declared.

“Whether through commerce, workshops… or the grand parade of the bands, we want to ensure that all young and old, local and visitors can experience the magic we create. Let Xpressionz be more than just a carnival band, let it be a force for change.”
