Throne Speech and Budget Debate Next Week

Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre will present the 2025/2026 Budget Address on April 22, his office has announced.

“A new session of the Parliament of Saint Lucia will commence on that day with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for 10:00 a.m., followed by the Throne Speech at 11:00 a.m., delivered by the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles,” the release said.

Later, at 5:00 p.m., Pierre will present the 2025/2026 Appropriations Bill or the Budget Address.

The proposed national budget totals $2 057 519 900, representing the largest financial allocation in the country’s history.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the budget will focus on infrastructure development, healthcare, citizen security, economic stabilisation, social development and job creation.

“The Prime Minister is also expected to highlight several key achievements of the past fiscal year, including a record low unemployment rate of 10.8% in the last year, three years of primary surplus and four consecutive years of economic growth above 3%,” the release said.

The Appropriations Bill Debate is scheduled to follow on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25, 2025.

All proceedings will be broadcast live on the National Television Network (NTN) and the Government of Saint Lucia’s Facebook page.
