Sapphire Parks remains in contention for the high points trophy in her age group after securing medals in all seven of her events so far at the XXXVIII Carifta 2025 Aquatic Championships in Trinidad & Tobago. On Monday evening (Day 3), Parks added a gold and a silver at the National Aquatic Centre in Couva, helping Saint Lucia reach a 10-medal total.
Competing in her first Carifta Championships, Parks claimed silver in the 11-12 girls’ 200m individual medley, clocking 2:39.73 behind Barbados’ Kaija Eastmond. However, she turned the tables in the 200m butterfly, winning gold in 2:39.04 ahead of Eastmond for her third gold of the meet.
Also on Monday, Antoine Destang earned bronze in the 15-17 boys’ 100m freestyle with a time of 51.38 seconds, while Tristan Dorville placed fifth in the same event. Fayth Jeffrey set a personal best of 36.07 in the 15-17 girls’ 50m breaststroke, finishing seventh.
The final day of long-course swimming will decide the high points award in the 11-12 girls’ category and determine whether Saint Lucia can match, or even surpass, their 11-medal haul from 2023. The 10-member team have 16 entries across five events, including a relay, giving Parks two more chances to expand her medal tally.
With three gold, three silver and four bronze medals, Saint Lucia sit 10th in the standings. Defending champions The Bahamas lead with 55 medals, followed by hosts Trinidad & Tobago with 42 and Jamaica with 41.
