The Junior Jazz Festival is set to light up Serenity Park May 8-9, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. This vibrant event offers a dynamic platform for the island’s budding musicians to shine, featuring an exciting lineup of performances, engaging activities and strong community support.
Colin Weekes, the festival’s lead organiser, shared his enthusiasm during a recent ceremony, emphasising the event’s mission to nurture young talent.
“We’re just trying to give [the students] a platform that would be the best they could perform on,” he said. “It’s all about giving them an experience, so when they’re ready for the next stage, the biggest stage, it won’t be new to them.”

This year’s festival will showcase performances from 12 schools over both days, with students displaying their skills through singing and instrumental acts. Beyond the stage, attendees can enjoy a variety of fun activities, including the lively Most Beautifully Decorated Umbrella contest.
The event has garnered strong backing from local sponsors, with generous contributions from First National Bank, LUCLEC, Massy Stores and Distributions and Sandals Resort.
“We’re looking to grow, and as sponsors come on board, they’ll be pleased with what we’re doing,” Weekes said.
He warmly invites the public to witness the extraordinary talent of Saint Lucia’s youth. “It’s a beautiful time to come and see all the schools in their different colours and uniforms. The performances are something you would not believe, talent you would not expect from our island,” he said.
As a free, family-friendly event, the festival encourages the community to come together in support of their young performers. “Come see your child perform, your nephew or niece. It is about family, togetherness and celebrating our youth,” Weekes said.
In addition to school performances, the festival will feature winners from an online competition, offering a spotlight to emerging talents who might otherwise go unheard.
“We are always looking to give opportunities to those who might be too shy to perform otherwise,” Weekes said.
