Saint Lucia closed out their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday evening with victory over 10-man Barbados in Curaçao. Two goals from Caniggia Elva led the Piton Boyz, technically the home team, to a 2-1 win over the Bajan Tridents.
With the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground unavailable due to West Indies A team cricket, the game was played at the Ergilio Hato Stadium SDK in Willemstad. Both teams came into the final fixture winless after three games.
Devonte Richards struck in the 12th minute to give Barbados the lead, but Caniggia Elva responded from the penalty spot in the 42nd. The match was tied 1-1 at halftime.
Barbados went down to 10 men in the 62nd minute, after Romario Small was shown a second yellow card. Saint Lucia continued to enjoy more of the possession, but were unable to find the back of the net until the 90th minute through a right-footed strike from Elva. It was his seventh goal in 14 games for the national team.
Curaçao finished atop Group C, after they won 5-1 against Haiti at Compleho Deportivo Guillermo Prospero Trinidad in Oranjestad, Aruba. Gervane Kastaneer, Kenji Gorré, Jearl Margaritha, Kevin Felida and Jeremy Antonisse scored for Curaçao. Louicius Deedson netted for Haiti.
The group winners and runners-up will progress to the third and final round of qualifying for next year’s World Cup. Saint Lucia and Barbados now prepare for the next edition of the Concacaf Nations League.
