Saint Lucia’s Under-15 footballers will clash with their counterparts from St Vincent & the Grenadines twice this week, as both prepare for next month’s Concacaf Boys Championship.
The two teams are in League C, which will be contested from August 4-9at the Stadion Jean Francisco and Stadion Ergilio Hato in Willemstad, Curaçao.
Saint Lucia’s Young Piton Boyz will face off against Martinique, Grenada and French Guiana in Group G. The Vincy Heat are in Group H with The Bahamas, Dominica and Bonaire.
Overall, 41 territories have been entered in three tiers.
This week’s tilts will help head coach Francis ‘Baba’ Lastic fine-tune tactics and make his final personnel decisions before the team travels to the Dutch territory at month-end. The two games will be played on Thursday and Saturday at the Brighton Playing Field.
The squad left for Kingstown on Tuesday. Of the 18 youngsters making the trip, 16 were in the squad for last year’s Caribbean Football Union Under-14 Championship that finished fourth out of five teams in Group C of Tier II with one win, one draw and two losses.
Among the returning players are last year’s captain, Lancers goalkeeper Jervonti Toussaint, vice-captain Shaquil Martelly, a prolific goal-scorer for GMC United, and lanky winger Randall Monroe of Saint Lucia Sports Academy.
