Dennery Residents and Participants of Faces of Development Summer Camp benefit from Free Health Screening

The Faces of Development Summer Camp has celebrated its fourth consecutive year with an impactful two-week programme.

A key highlight was the community health fair, organised in partnership with the Dennery Hospital and held at the Clendon Mason Memorial Secondary School. The event brought together health professionals to provide vital services, education, and resources for children, families and Dennery residents.

The health fair offered free screenings, wellness checks, nutritional guidance, and interactive educational booths covering critical topics, such as food security, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Yolanda Alcindor, principal nursing officer at Dennery Hospital, highlighted the diverse services available at the fair, all designed to promote community wellness.

“We have Environmental Health talking about mosquitoes, how to prevent dengue fever, how we can cover our water containers to prevent mosquito breeding. We have Substance Abuse talking about alcohol and other dangerous drugs, and we also have Universal Health Care talking about the different services that this programme provides,” Alcindor said.

Additional support came from the Bureau of Health Education, which offered general health education, while the Taiwan Technical Mission focused on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The Saint Lucia Fire Service also contributed by demonstrating life-saving CPR techniques.

Cornelius Edmund, president of Faces of Development, emphasised the importance of equipping young participants with essential health knowledge.

He noted that the camp also included crucial discussions on sexual and reproductive health, stressing the importance of early education on these topics.
