Sparks Make it 2-2 in ECCB Netball

Saint Lucia’s Piton Sparks continued their winning ways in the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) International Netball Series on Monday, with wins over Montserrat and Dominica. The tournament got into its third day at the Tanteen Netball Facility in St George’s, Grenada, after Sunday’s games were rained out.

The Montserrat fixture had been stopped on Saturday with Saint Lucia leading 38-5. Montserrat did not take to the court on Monday morning, handing victory to Saint Lucia.

The Sparks’ second match was not as straightforward, as the Sparks met their nemeses from the Nature Isle. In the end, though, Saint Lucia were able to prevail, winning 53-47 to maintain their perfect record.

After two matches, Saint Lucia captain Malika Destang is eighth overall in scoring, with 30 goals from 35 attempts; at 85.71%, she is fifth in accuracy among the top shooters. Player-coach Shem Maxwell and Semaj Marguerite have identical figures of 25 from 34, a 75.53% success rate.

In other games played on Monday, Antigua & Barbuda whipped Montserrat 53-14, and Anguilla dominated Guyana 42-21. Barbados held on to beat Grenada 68-60, and defending champions St Vincent & the Grenadines topped the Cayman Islands 55-43.

On Tuesday, Saint Lucia are slated to play Antigua & Barbuda from 7 p.m.
