Clarke Picked for Canada Super 60 Cricket

Saint Lucia and West Indies Under-19 fast bowler McKenny Clarke will be part of the inaugural Canada Super 60 Cricket League, which will be played next month in Vancouver. The 22-year-old is presently with Trinbago Knight Riders in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League. He has also played with the MI Emirates and Saint Lucia Kings.

Clarke was selected by the Vancouver Kings in the second round of last week’s draft. The hometown team will compete against the Brampton Blitz, Mississauga Masters, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Sixers and Whiterock Warriors at BC Place, one of the world’s most iconic indoor sporting venues.

Clarke is so far the only West Indian player named for the tournament, which is designed to promote cricket in Canada while giving exposure to international and associate nation players. Every team will bring a mix of star power and young talent.

On the Kings, Clarke will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Moeen Ali and Chris Wood (England), Dwaine Pretorius and Rassie van der Russen (South Africa). The league also includes Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza, England’s Ravi Bopara and Alex Hales, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik.

The Canada Super 60 bills itself as the first global-format cricket league to feature both men’s and women’s 10-over-a-side tournaments from inception.Between October 8 and 10, the tournament will be played indoors at BC Place, which is set to host games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The league has plans to expand to other Canadian cities in the coming years, making it a truly national cricket league.
