OKEU Hospital administration responds after attempted patient escape

The Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) has confirmed that a patient was injured on September 5 after attempting to leave the Owen King EU Hospital without authorisation.

In a September 6 statement, the MHMC said the patient tried to exit the facility through a second-floor window and fell to the ground. The individual is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained.

“We wish to reassure the public that the safety and well-being of both our patients and staff remain among our highest priorities,” the hospital said, adding that additional safety measures are being put in place.

The incident drew public attention after video clips circulated on social media, appearing to show the patient clinging to the side of the hospital before falling. The footage prompted a wave of discussion around mental health support and how hospitals manage patients who may be in distress.

MHMC said it is investigating the circumstances and will use the findings to strengthen security procedures.

“Our commitment to people-centred care includes maintaining a secure environment for healing, and we take any breach of the environment of care seriously,” the statement noted.

The hospital added that it remains committed to transparency and accountability and expressed empathy to all affected parties.

  1. Not sure what your protocols are in St. Lucia’s medical facilities regarding mental health patients. However, this scenario is nothing short of seriously disturbing.
