The body of 26-year-old McClean Steven was recovered Tuesday morning, two days after he was swept away by waves while fishing at La-Tit-Anse Beach in Babonneau.
According to police, Steven, a resident of Chassin, Babonneau, encountered difficulty around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, when a wave pulled him into the water. Despite efforts to regain control, he was unable to escape the current.
A search operation was launched Monday by officers from the Babonneau Police Station and the Police Marine Unit, joined by family members and concerned residents. The initial sweep proved unsuccessful.
The search resumed early Tuesday. Around 11:00 a.m., Steven’s body was located and transported to the Owen King EU Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has confirmed that the matter remains under investigation, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.
